The two trainers run into each other multiple times on their journeys and become rivals. Over time Ethan helps Silver understand the bond between trainer and Pokémon as they grow stronger through taking on the league and fighting together against Team Rocket. Silver isn't afraid to invade Ethan's personal space and the ship name itself comes from the fact that Silver seems to go after his rival.
