Drew casually flirts with May and has a running theme of giving her roses after or before competitions. He pushes her hard as a rival but is always sure to give credit where it is due. Harley has caused trouble for May on multiple occasions and Drew confronts him because even though he "makes fun of" May and her Pokémon but he genuinely cares and looks out for her. Harley also mentions romance between the two coordinators at a contest and causes May to blush madly while clutching a rose given to her by Drew. The male seems unbothered at first but stalks away once Harley has departed. The same happens with Brianna, a newbie coordinator that's head over heels for Drew, who questions May about her feelings for him which once again makes her blush. Even Caroline, May's mom, teases her about her rival. Solidad has also mentioned that Drew brings up May and May alone when they talk about other coordinators. When May and Drew get stuck on Mirage Island alone together their rivalry begins to evolve into friendship and they actually enjoy their time together. They save other in different situations and are relieved when everything ultimately turns out fine. While it was not made canon by the end of the series it was heavily implied that May and Drew are meant to end up together.
