Serena's Fennekin/Braixen and Ash's Froakie/Frogadier/Greninja are essentially the Pokémon version of their trainers. They looked out for and supported each other in battle on many occasions. The interest they shared in one another was unlike their relationships with any of the other Pokémon in XY/Z.

My thoughts - I definitely don't ship Pokémon species. In this case it's specifically Ash and Serena's, which I'm totally down for! The chemistry between them in the anime was subtle but really fun to see.
