Part 9

Nope. Nothing went well, as usual. Why did I keep saying everything would be fine? Rael finally got us to the road where Camp Jupiter was a block away. But something happened. The car doors locked. The engine sputtered, then screamed. It sped forward but Rael wasn't in control.The wheel was turning by itself. I looked up. I saw a puff of black shadow. Someone shadow-traveled away.

We can all guess who, right? Nico.That same black smoke can through the A.C. Since we couldn't get out or open the windows, me and everyone else was forced to breathe the substance in. The smoke filled my lungs, no matter how hard I tried not to inhale. Madelyn was the first to pass out. Then Addison. Rael slammed onto the steering wheel and Ethan slouched into me. My vision started getting fuzzy. I could barely make it out but I saw the car charge into the San Francisco Bay.

I saw blue and the windshield crack. Water flooded through the
smash in the glass. It filled to the top. I coughed, trying to get the black air out. But then I didn't need to breathe. I inhaled the water. Wait.That wasn't right.How did I-oh yeah. Water powers.But the rest of my friends couldn't do that. I could use the power of Poseidon to move the car up to the surface. I focused really hard. I had a pulling feeling in my stomach and then the car rose.

It was heavy, I'm not gonna lie. I groaned with the weight of five people and a car and whatever was in the trunk for the car to be so heavy. The force broke the windows, including the windshield. The car broke the surface of the water. The liquid poured out front the shattered windows. I scrambled to the front. I punched the car horn before my legs gave way. I collapsed from the exhaustion of trying to breathe, save four people, and pushing my limit in my water powers. Everything went black.

I woke to the sound of police sirens. Oh, that's just great.Just great. I sat up. Not a good idea. Pain erupted throughout my body. Ethan was the only one was awake. Besides him, everyone was knocked out. I looked out a smashed window. Red and blue lights flashed. I also saw a band of people, carrying swords and angry expressions. The doors were still sealed shut so Ethan and I had to climb out the windows. I squeezed through the tiny space. Maybe a little too fast.

I fell through the compartment into the water. I swam to the surface. A sharp pain exploded through my leg. I glanced down. I saw red liquid. Blood. I'm so stupid. I cut my leg on a glass shard. Great. I joined Ethan on the beach. With the last bit a strength I had, I brought the destroyed car to the sand.

I collapsed. Ethan tried to catch me but failed. I saw the cut. It was a thin line that was oozing blood. Percy and Annabeth ran to my side. They saw my injury
. Percy took the water from the bay. He put it on the cut. The water sparkled and and closed the wound. He looked at me. "It's healed, but you will still feel some pain while it heals interiorly." They helped me up. I winched at the pain. It still hurt like it was split open. I limped over the car. My friends were starting to wake up. Rael was dazed, Addison looked drunk and Madelyn seemed to be dizzy. The police were talking to Jason and Piper. The man nodded and got back in the car. They drove off. Whatever they said worked, thank the gods.

Jason lit up his lightning fingers and broke everything in the car expect the children.Well just great. Addison stumbled toward us. He picked up a broken destroyed steering wheel. He grinned.

"I guess we wouldn't be returning THAT anytime soon." I gave him a 'can you be so stupid and yet be so right' look. I sprinted up to him.

"You little piece of-" I spat,but my mother cut me off. "Language."

"I mean-" I swore in Ancient Greek

After a few minutes of swearing and pacing around, I finally hit Addison and stormed away. Percy looks at me and steps up. "Alright, guys, you screwed up but we'll forget it ." He gave me a look, half-mad, half I'm so proud.

"How about we get pizza?" At the very mention of food, my stomach growled. I realized I hadn't had food since I left for San Francisco.

"I guess we will take that as a yes,"Annabeth stated.

We marched into Papa John's, which was about a fifteen minute walk. We ordered 20 pepperoni pizzas. Percy asked if they had any blue food dye but they unfortunately didn't. When he heard this, he threatened to summon the entire San Francisco Bay on top of the cashier's head.

It took Jason, Frank, and Annabeth to pull him out before anything happened. We agreed to do a picnic on the bay's shore.

After I finished a whole box of pizza,I glanced around. I saw Percy and Annabeth sitting together, with blue pizza. I guess Annabeth had some on her person. Just for him. So sweet. And disgusting at the same time.

Rael, Addison, and Ethan were talking and laughing. But Madelyn was by the water. The shore was soaking her jeans but she didn't seem to care.

She stared out on the bay as the sun made a reflection on the water from its peak in the sky. I grabbed some pizza and sat next to her.

"Food?" I offered.

"Yeah, thanks." She took it unwillingly. I wanted to know what was wrong with my friend.
