*Madelyn POV*
Madelyn was questioning her entire existence. What's next? Harry Potter in London? Peter Pan in Neverland? Katniss Everdeen in Panem? The Lord of the Rings and Merlin in a different time period? All the thinking gave her a headache. K.C.came and joined her. She gave her pizza.
"What's up? She said,concerned.
"Oh, well uh..." Madelyn couldn't put it to words.
"I just don't know what real and fake anymore. Or what's wrong and what's right. I mean you're the daughter of Percy and Annabeth Jackson. You have good role models and you can tell what's right or not." K.C smiled at her.
"Sometimes, you need to do what's right and not care about the consequences." What K.C. said was a reference to something but she couldn't put her finger on it.
"Anyway, it's going to be okay.I know it and if nothing goes right, we'll try going left." K.C. looked proud of what she just said. It was pretty good. Madelyn felt better.
She asked K.C. a question.
"So if you're Percy daughter, then can you um..." She hesitated then pointed at the water. She understood immediately. She picked up the water. It flowed around them in swirly patterns. Then she put the liquid back into the sea of colors.
Madelyn stared at her in awe. K.C. didn't look like trouble but that fire she had was not misinterpreted. And it did not sit well with her. Or maybe it was the pizza. Either way, she knew she had to help K.C. in any way. Because if the stories of Percy Jackson taught her anything,it was heroes need support and friendship.
And she knew if Percy and his gang could do anything even in crisis, that they could too.
And nothing was going to stop her or anyone in the group from succeeding.
*K.C. POV*
After we watched and admired the sunset on the shore, we all headed back to Camp Jupiter. Jason and Piper insisted on them staying at their place, and so they all ended up sleeping there. Percy and Annabeth took the bedroom, so Madelyn and I slept on the couch. Addison and Ethan went up to their room.
Hazel and Frank went home with Rael. But I couldn't sleep. I bet everyone else couldn't drift off either. But no matter what my mind said, my body refused. My eyelids were heavy. I fell asleep. In my dream, I saw the Statue of Liberty. Not just a tourist attraction but in chaos. I saw my friends fighting and I couldn't see myself for some reason. Then I saw a blur fall to the Atlantic Ocean. Then I got a better view. It was me, covered in cuts, scrapes and a deep stab wound in her midsection. Then she hit the icy cold water.
I felt her pain well my pain or who I will be, I guess. I struggled in the depths, all my energy drained. I gasped and panting, even though there was no air. The power of Poseidon failed. I couldn't breathe in the water. My lungs burned as they filled with liquid. Then I was brought up to the surface. But not from anybody friendly. It was Manasseh, who blinding me in black coils.
He spoke,"Katherine, this will happen. I grow stronger, feeding off the negativity of others. Even your own parents and friends have darkness inside. Everybody does. But I wouldn't kill you. Somebody else will. Someone you admire and love."
He tossed me on the rocky beach. My friends closed in around me. Their eyes were a different color. They were white, and definitely not normal. Everything went to black.
I woke to the smell of bacon and pancakes. I rubbed my eyes and looked at Madelyn, who was still sleeping. I got up and walked to the kitchen. Percy and Jason were cooking. Jason was frying bacon and Percy was fixing pancakes.
