I quietly get back inside the house, hoping Mum won't notice that I came home late. But she's there.

"Please don't kill me, Mum."

"I won't, honey." she laughs. "You really do like him, don't you?" She starts stroking my hair.

"Yeah, I do. But he doesn't like me back. And it hurts, it hurts knowing that you can't have someone who you're willing to steal the stars for."

"Yeah, I had that in high school too. It sucks, big time. But don't let that mess up your whole life, okay? You will find someone who loves you for who you are." She hugs me.

"But, I want him."

She kisses my hair. "We can't always get what we want, Olivia." She pauses. "But he seems like a good lad, hold onto him. Maybe he'll develop feelings for you, who knows. Whatever happens, don't expect too much because at the end, you are the only one walking the road to your destiny."

"Thanks, Mum. I love you."

"I love you more."

Honestly bless my Mum for being such a kind soul and always caring for me. And I swear, today's events made me happy but kind of sad too. It's just that everything you long for won't necessarily come to you the way you want it to. And sometimes you won't get it at all. I feel like life is a beautiful sad song, you're crying all throughout it, but when you look back at the long run, it looks like a beautiful mistake. And that's what haunts me the most. And that's how I cried myself to sleep, knowing that things won't ever change.
