I looked up at Peeta seeing he was laughing as well. It was a moment we both had not expected, but we were both overwhelmed it was happening. Moments later, we began running to the stairs listening for their voices, which instead, was replaced with silence and footsteps. I hated worrying about what Paylor would do once she gained back her consciousness. All I could do was hope that nothing terrible would happen and that we’d find them.

We came up to the last door which was locked, which wasn’t so surprising, since Paylor knew we would come up here to get them back. The man, who had approached me earlier, offered that one of us should go through the vent. Before Peeta could offer, I quickly said “I will.” I felt all of their stares on me, even the audience at home would be hooked onto the story by now. It was a story of trust, hope, and love; which were the key ingredients to a sob story.

Peeta grabbed my arm hoping to pull me back and talk me out of it, but I pulled away. I didn’t want Peeta to risk his life, even though he was wearing the necklace but it could be easily taken off.

“By the way…” the man interrupted. “My name is Butch.” He said quickly interlocking his hands together making a ‘step’. “Step onto my hand on the count of three, and I want you to reach for that vent the moment you step on.” He pointed towards the vent looking into my eyes for an answer. I nodded looking at the vent which was big enough for me to get in there on my first try. I was a little worried that his hands would drop once my weight was on them, but I had to have faith in him in this moment. He could help me save Ivy and Chasen, which meant a lot to me.

“One, two, three!” I jumped on his hand and reached up the moment I stepped on. I had almost slipped but I landed perfectly on my first try. Instead of waiting for instructions from Butch, I moved my way down the vent looking for a light, or an opening. With my bow and arrow strapped around my back, I began to wonder if there was even an opening and if the allies were going to stay there. But there had to be an opening since, after all, this was a vent. The allies had to have stayed there, though, because where else could they go?

Suddenly, I fell down onto a floor which had seemed like the shortest fall I had ever done. It was quick and surprisingly wasn’t painful at all.  I felt four arms wrap around and hug me before I could get up. I admit, I cried a little since I thought I was never going to see their faces again. I had brought a picture of them with me the first day but somehow it had gotten lost. Now the picture couldn’t even compare to what it felt like to actually have them hugging me.

“We missed you.” Ivy said holding me tighter. I got up after she let go and tried lifting both of them up. Chasen wrapped his arms around my neck and his legs around my stomach. I held Ivy for only

a few moments before I realized she wasn’t as light as Chasen anymore. I held onto her hand, instead, and walked to open the door which was unlocked from the inside. The door looked like a newly painted white, which I swore I could smell the new paint.  I could hear Peeta outside, panicking that something may have happened to me.

“What if something happened? I’ll-“ he said with a fast, shaky voice.

“I’ll be held accountable, not you. I was the one that let her up there. Just calm down, she might be still trying to find her way in.”

I bent down onto my knees, letting Chasen down. I looked at both of them and asked “Ready to see your Dad?” I saw a smile quickly appear on their faces as they nodded.

Once I opened the door, he was the first person I could see and his reaction was priceless. He looked like he was going to pass out because he was worried about us. Butch looked relieved that I had made it since he was assisting and would feel guilty if anything happened.

“Alright,” he said straightening out his smile. “Let’s get moving.” He began to push through the crowd and we all began to follow. I held on to Peeta’s hand and Ivy held onto his other hand.

“Thank god you are alive” he whispered squeezing onto my hand. I smiled a little bit feeling something, or rather someone behind us. Without hesitation, I quickly turned around to see an unfamiliar face which must have been one of Paylor’s guards. The crowd had halted shortly after I did. The man and I seemed to staring at each other for a few minutes, and suddenly Paylor came out with another guard. They seemed very muscular which made them more threatening and stronger.

“Je vais vous tuer pour ce que vous avez fait” she said “et vos enfants, aussi!” I didn’t understand it, but by the looks on her face, it looked like she wanted me dead. I aimed my arrow prepared to fight, but I watched as Butch stood in front of me, guarding my body. “Move you worthless thing!” She screamed. I felt Peeta pull me away as I watched Butch dodge her shots running towards her. I began to panic trying to run towards him but Peeta had a strong grip with his arms around my stomach.

“Don’t hurt him!” I yelled yanking forward, trying to free from Peeta’s grip. “What the hell are you doing Butch?” I yelled.

The last two words I heard before she hit him in the arm were “Saving you.”
