A Kiss For Good Luck?

Sophie's POV

"Keefe, you can't-"

"Shush, I'll make it."

"Get down from the tree, you're too clumsy when you levitate and you're channeling still needs some work. So Keefe, get down."

"But I wanna freak out Fitz."

Keefe had a crazy insane plan – as usual – to jump from the tree through Fitz's window. It was a hilarious idea, if I didn't care about the safety of both my friends.

"I'm ready," Keefe says, as if we weren't just arguing about it. I sigh because I know there's no changing his mind.

"Be safe," I warn.

"Phfff safe is my middle name Foster," he says with a dismissing wave of his hand.

"Actually it's-"

"I know what my middle name is Foster. No need to reeducate me."

I roll my eyes and give him a thumbs up. He shifts so that he's facing the window and bends his knees at the correctly calculated distance. He didn't calculate it – Dex did. Dex was so keen on getting back at Fitz, his exact words were, "I'll do anything to get back at Wonderboy even if I have to work with," he sighs, "Keefe." And according to Dex Keefe was "worse than Wonderboy".

Right as Keefe looks about ready to jump, it seems as if he has a change of mind. He straightens up and turns towards me.

"A kiss for good luck?" He suggests.

Usually I'd brush it off as a joke but lately I've been unsure.

I simply smile and he climbs down the tree, my heart beating loud in my ears, and gives me a quick kiss.

He scampers back up the tree, and the next thing I notice, and the only thing louder than my thumping heart, is Fitz's high-pitched, girly scream, and Keefe's manic laughing.

Today was quite a day.
