ONE YEAR LATER

"Mackenzie, I know we've only known each other for a year and a half, but I know deep down that you're my soulmate. I love you, Kenzie. So will you do me the honor, and be my wife." Jess said as he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring box.

"Yes." I answered as I began to cry happy tears.

I hugged Jess and he slipped the ring on my finger. I can't wait to marry him and then lose my virginity to him.

Jess and I quickly told all of our friends and family before cuddling on the couch of the trailer together. Yes, I know that the trailer isn't the most romantic place to get engaged but it works for us. Some people may think it's too soon but I know that I love Jess and that's all that matters.

"Do you like the ring?" Jess asked.
"Yes, I do. It's beautiful." I said and looked into Jess's eyes.
"Those are real diamonds." He said and smiled.
"Jess, you don't have to spend your hard-earned money on me." I scolded.
"I don't have to but I wanted you to have something nice." Jess said and kissed my cheek lightly.
"What'd your family say?" I ask.
"They were all super excited. Mom was the happiest of them all. She's glad that I found you." He said and smiled.

He's always so happy when he talks about his family. Then, I realized something. I don't have a father to walk me down the aisle at my wedding. I began to cry.

"What's wrong?" Jess asked and rubbed my forearm.
"I don't have anyone to walk me down the aisle." I sobbed.
"Where's your dad?" He asked.
"Dad died 3 years ago from cancer." I cried.
"We'll figure something out." Jess assured.
"Jess, would it be weird if I walked down the aisle with his ashes?" I asked.
"I think it'd be sweet, Mac. It's not weird." He said.
"Okay. I'll talk to mom about it." I said and smiled.
"In the next week or two, we need to figure out a date for the wedding." Jess said.
"Summer wedding?" I asked.
"We'll discuss it when we get home sweetie." He said and smiled.

I can't wait to marry my best friend.
