Chapter 34: Winners and losers

  -"Sorry for not being there. Don't worry, everything is gonna be alright"- Checo said during his break. The pre season testings were starting in Spain and Sara wasn't there. Instead, she was in L.A. in the trail to finally know if she had the full custody of her daughter. 

-"I'm nervous to be honest, hun"- se said, making a small pause, caressing her almost 6 month belly. -"The baby is moving a lot now"- she told him still caressing her belly.

-"You better try to be calm"- he said to her. -"I love you"- they said goodbye.

Sara entered the judge. She took her place and gave a quick look to the room. In her right side, Nick was standing. He seemed very relaxed and confident.

....

-"You have everything the girl needs, however you denied the paternity. Legally, you're not her father so you won't get any kind of custody or rights over her. The full custody belongs to Mrs Pérez and her husband. Session over."- the judge said. Sara smiled, relieved.

-"But sir, I have a more stable life than her, my daughter deserves that!"- Nick said, trying to convince the judge.

-"Mr Carter, that's my final decision"- the old man said.

.....

-"You won this time, but I'll keep fighting for her"- Nick said to her, his look was cold an intense, but that didn't scared Sara.

-"This wouldn't be happening if you didn't denied her. Now you want her after all this time. This is ironic."- Sara said calmed and left.

A couple of weeks later, in Australia..

-"Good luck daddy!"- Angie said to her dad before the quali started.

-"Thanks, hun"- he said, giving her a quick hug.

-"Good luck my love"- Sara said to her husband, who was caressing her belly.

-"Thanks hun"- he said, giving a kiss to her belly and then to his lady.

....

-"You miss being on track, right?"- Susie asked to Sara after seeing her watching the other photographers walking to the pits.

-"Yes, a lil bit but it's for a great reason"- Sara responded, smiling.

-"Are you coming back after the baby is born?"- Susie asked

-"Most probably"- Sara said. Both ladies continued talking during the quali.

The session ended with Rosberg taking the pole and Pérez second. The next day, the race started clean for the Mercedes, fighting for the lead during the first 5 laps until Sergio managed to pass his teammate. The Mexican lead the next 18 laps until Verstappen passed him when he went to the pits. Then, Pérez rejoined second. With fresher tyres, the Mexican got closer to Verstappen and passed him on lap 38. He kept the lead for the next 10 laps, then, Rosberg managed to pass Max after an intense battle. Then, the German was getting closer to his teammate but he couldn't take the win.

-"Congrats, love!"- Sara said to Checo, once he was in parc fermé, celebrating with the team.

-"Love you, hun"- He said and hugged her, still with his helmet on, and softly caressed her belly.

Meanwhile, in the USA...

-"And this is the last thing"- Nick said while placed the last piece of the bed he bought for Angie, in the garage. He had a sad face. -"Wish I could turn back time and make things different. If I had accepted..."- he said, interrupted by a couple of tears falling through his face.

-"Oh love, wish I could do something to make you feel better"- his wife, Lauren, said while embracing him tightly.

-"Can we try for a girl?"- Nick asked, after a few minutes, turning his face to see his wife. -"I don't want to see that room empty,"- he continued.

-"Absolutely no!". She said, releasing him. -"I had a bad time with our boys, I struggled to do my fitness routines and it took me a long time to recover my perfect silhouette!"- she said, a lil bit upset.

A couple of weeks later...

-"Papi, you're back!"- a pretty excited Angie screamed when she saw Checo crossing the door of their appartment. She hasn't seen him for a lil bit more than 2 weeks.

-"Hey darling!"he said, leaving his bags and leaning down to give her a hug. -"I missed you so much"- he said after hugging her. -"Where is mom?"- he asked, after not seeing his wife.

-"I missed you more, daddy"- she said. -"Mommy is taking a nap"- she continued.

....

-"Hey, love. You're back"- Sara said, woken up by a soft kiss on her front head.

-"I missed you hun"- he said, giving her another soft kiss and caressing her belly. She incorporated to give him a kiss. She deepened the kiss, Checo was responding to it with the same passion. Then, she started to unbutton his shirt, but he stopped her.

-"are you ok?"- she asked, a lil bit surprised.

-"Sorry love, I'm tired. I've had two complicated races. I just want to relax and forget about them"- he said. The Chinese GP was tough. He had finished third after starting first. But Bahrain was tougher. He got the pole but in the race he had problems with the car that left him out just 16 laps after the chequered flag. Now he was 30 points from Rosberg.
