"Holy shit." I mumbled shoving my head into my laptop, moving my cursor over to the email.
I clicked on the small bar that read the subject.
I held my palm up to my mouth in shock as my eyes skimmed over the words.
Dear Alexandra Tomlinson,
We have been watching your performances on the XFactor, and may we just say we are impressed.
I continued, shaking.
We are currently scouting for new, fresh, young faces, and we believe you could be a great face for what we are looking for.
My mouth was agape at this point.
We would like to hear a demo single from you. Please reply if you are interested. We would love to invite you to the Universal Family!
I forwarded the email to dad, and ran downstairs.
"Dad!" I screamed. "Email! Now! Check!" I was out of breath. Dad grabbed his iPhone off the counter, and I watched over his shoulder as he opened the mail app.
He refreshed his inbox, and as I did myself, his mouth fell open as he began to read.
"Oh my fucking god... Ally!" He said opening his arms for a hug. I ran into them as if I hadn't seen him in years. "I'll call Simon... We can get you in the studio one day. We need a song! We need a manager! We need to tell your mum!"
"Mum!" I shouted across the house. We heard her hurried footsteps running into the kitchen where we were sitting. Dad tossed his phone to her, and she read across the small screen, then dropping the device to the ground.
"Ally! Oh my goodness!" She said pulling me into a hug. Dad grabbed his phone off the ground, and began composing an email to Simon, asking to get me in the studio sometime soon, just so I could record a demo.
So that's what we did. The next day at ten am, we pulled up to Syco Studios, and Dad lead me into the recording booth he rented. Our first task was finding a song.
Dad and I sat on beanbags in the booth, arguing over which song I should sing. He insisted on a classic, I insisted on something current.
We finally settled on Two Pieces by my favorite, Demi Lovato.
Louis manned the controls, and I stood at the mic with my beats on and music playing into them.
I took a breath, and began singing.
~
There's a boy, lost his way, looking for someone to play
There's a girl in the window tears rolling down her face
We're only lost children, trying to find a friend
Trying to find our way back home
We don't know where to go, so I'll just get lost with you
We'll never fall apart, 'cause we fit together right, we fit together right
These dark clouds over me, rain down and roll away
We'll never fall apart, 'cause we fit together like
Two pieces of a broken heart
~
I took a few breaths before placing my headphones around my neck.
"Ally, that was amazing, but we should record a few more times." Dad spoke into the mic.
I sighed, placing the headphones back onto my ears, and belted it out a few more times until dad said we were good.
We sat there editing for another two hours. I sat on a spinny chair and pulled my knees up to my chin, spinning around and scrolling through my Instagram Feed.
At the end of the day, which was now three, I listened back to the tape a few times, and burned it to a disc. On our way out from the studio, I put it in a small padded box, and carried it to the car.
I hopped into the drivers seat of Dad's car, him riding passenger. I drove home, and settled in for the afternoon.
I walked upstairs and turned on my laptop. I pushed the CD of my demo into the disc drive, and plugged in some headphones.
I smiled, and dragged the file from my desktop to my 'Recordings' folder, then opened up a new email, and attatched the file.
I typed out the Universal Records email, and attatched the file to the message.
Dear Producers,
Thank you for this opportunity... Attached is a demo track for you all.
Warm Regards,
Ally Tomlinson
I reread the email, and gulped down my nerves, and clicked on the small red send button.
I let out a breath, and leaned back in my chair.
This may just be my shot at fame...
