---------------------------------------------------------
The first day back at school after summer break is usually exciting for most. New beginnings and reuniting with the peers you haven't seen in months. Isn't that what it's all about? The parties, the gossip, and being a reckless teenager? That's just what I've always seen in movies. Senior year is "your year"
The cliche movie plot has never really been my reality of a high school experience. Is it for anyone really? I don't have many friends, because at my school friendship comes with drama and that's definitely not my thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some bitch that hates everyone and roams the halls alone. I have some friends. They just aren't the ones you have sleepovers with and tell your secrets to ya know?
Letting out an inhuman groan, I roll out of bed trudging my way to the bathroom. After seeing the looks of myself, I'm regretting only giving myself thirty minutes to get ready. I apply some mascara and concealer to hide the dark and heavy circles under my tired eyes. Running a brush through my hair leaving in its natural state, I leave the bathroom without giving myself another look. That's as good as it's going to get.
I pull on a pair of black leggings lying on my floor, and tie the white loose v neck I wore to sleep into a knot hoping that no one realizes the lack of effort I gave. I look at the clock and realize it's already 8:15, reminding myself to wake up earlier tomorrow I grab my things and rush out the door.
--------This school hasn't changed a bit. Same old hallways filled with the cliques that seemed to be established in grade school. I guess I missed initiation day. I smile and wave to a few of my "friends" if that's what you want to call them before making my way to the office to pick up my schedule.
Lo and behold, I have the pleasure of having gym first period. "Fuck me" I groan under my breath, earning a look of disapproval from the guidance counselor sitting on the other side of the counter. Before I get detention on the first day of school, I give her an apologetic smile and quickly leave without another word.
Walking into the gym, or more like stumbling, I stand, half asleep, waiting for the coach to call roll. I like the football coach, I had him for geography last year and lucky for me he will be teaching my gym class as well. Fidgeting in place, I wait impatiently for my name to be called. "Ethan Dolan" coach Jackson calls. "Here" I look over to see a tall, dark headed boy lift his hand showing he was present. I've never seen him before. I've gone to school with basically the same people my entire life, and I definitely wouldn't forget a face like that. Holy shit he was beautiful.
"Y/N Y/L/N HELLO" shouts coach as if he's already called my name a few times. Tearing my eyes from the mysterious new kid, I look to the floor to hide the embarrassment on my cheeks "sorry coach, I'm here" "wake up y/l/n" he gives me a smile before moving on to the next name. I glance over at the boy once again, only to be met with his eyes looking back. Scolding myself for gawking like an idiot, i look away before I can make a fool myself anymore.
Because it was the first day we weren't doing anything too active. We had the choice to play basketball or just walk around the gym and talk to friends. I obviously chose to walk. I noticed a girl that I had math with last year and started to make my way toward her. About halfway across the court, im pushed to the ground by someone trying to catch the ball. "Ow watch it" I groan, looking up with an annoyed expression "I'm so sorry are you alright?" There he was, the dark headed boy. He helps me to my feet, searching me with concerned eyes. Kind eyes. "You good?" he asks again and I realize I didn't answer him. "Mhm" I nod, brushing off my shirt. My mind is screaming to walk away but my feet are almost glued to the floor. "I'm Ethan" he says, giving a smile that will be embedded in my brain for an eternity. "Y/n" I realize how cold I sounded after I said it, but something is telling me to stay away from this boy, but something is also pulling me closer. "Look, I'm sorry for knocking you over, but you did cross the court in the middle of a game ya know?" He chuckles with a smirk. "It's fine, just don't let it happen again" I return the smug look and walk away. This year should be interesting.
