((pt 2/2 of Burgundy seas))
🌊
he was in her room, sunlight filtering through the billowing curtains. the rays landed on his languid figure, laid out in a starfish shape among the crumpled sheets of her bed, looking absolutely pure and gorgeous in the early morning hours.
his fingers tapped along to the rhythm of the waves.
she found herself enchanted by them; they were long and lovely, finger joints protruding a bit before connecting to bruised and scraped knuckles.
his palms, however, were soft. while the backs of his hands were tanned and damaged, somehow the pale centers stayed fair and supple, even more gentle than the sway of the trees in the salty breeze.
he seemed to be a part of the island, beautiful and free and mysterious.
it took her a few days to learn why.
🌊
"you can't breathe under the water, jungkook."
they were friends now. her parents thought he was just someone she had met at the island and weren't too concerned, which enabled them to get closer.
his torso popped out onto the surface of the water moments later, shaking his hair out with a grin.
"who says? i did it before."
she snorted, swimming out so she could be closer to him- the events from just a few days ago fresh in her mind.
"dying doesn't count."
he pouted adorably. and then his face turned scarily serious, eyes assuming their previous darkness.
it was as if his eyes could change at will; not enough for it to be noticeable from a distance, but up close it was almost alarming how quickly they turned into deep galaxies. she swore she could see stars in them, a few constellations connecting.
he blinked and it was gone, and she was left gazing dumbly at him.
"i want to show you something," he murmured.
and before she could protest, he grabbed her hand and swam, pulling her along with a force she didn't think was possible from a human; she couldn't even see his legs paddling in the water.
"what-"
he stopped in a cave almost a quarter way across the island, and she stumbled as she ran out of the water.
"what was that? how did you do that and not get tired? im-"
"shh."
he was in front of her in an instant, finger pressed to her lips to quiet her.
her abrupt stop made her last words echo in the closed end of the cave, and she found herself shivering despite that it wasn't cold out.
"are you going to kill me?" she whispered, eyes wide and afraid.
a soft smile appeared on his face, putting her a little at ease. he shook his head and took her hand in his, lacing their fingers and leading her into the darkness.
they walked until there was still enough light to see, and there was a rock formation in the middle of a circular sized enclosure. it looked like a donut, the center raised up like a platform with shallow water on all sides.
she slowly walked to it on her own, seemingly entranced.
as she got closer, something caught her eye; it reflected the sun and as she went to investigate, she saw that there were tons of the seemingly glitter like pieces scattered on the rocks and in the water.
and then she noticed the blood.
she gasped, recoiling, only to bump into jungkook's strong figure.
"it's okay," he murmured almost sadly.
"it's mine."
he picked up one of the pieces and crushed it between his fingers, a bittersweet smile on his face as he let the dried powder fall to the ground.
curiosity overtook her and she grabbed one, realizing that it was a scale.
iridescent and beautiful, it reflected the sun despite that it was dried from being exposed to the air for so long.
she plunged her hand into the water, taking one out from there and admiring the unearthly quality to it.
"what are these from?"
she turned to face him, and then it all clicked.
jungkook wasn't trying to drown himself. he was trying to go home.
her face crumpled as the realization came over her, and even as her logic told her it wasn't real, she knew deep down, it was.
"i'm sorry," she sobbed as she clutched the pearly scales to her chest, sinking to sit on the rock formation.
"none of this is your fault," he murmured. "i was the one who fell."

a/n- the little mermaid story they never told u lmao
should i make a part three?? im just gonna tell u what happens here.
basically jeon sees her on one of the years before, when she was vacationing with her family. she's swimming, he's a merman, he falls in love, etc.
he watches her for a few years before he finds the courage to go to the sea witch, trade his life in the sea for one on land. the only thing is that he can't come back to the water even if he fails to make her fall in love with him, and when the transformation is happening he goes to that cave, where it is a very bloody and messy and not disney-esque process.
but she's leaving the island before he gets to her, and he realizes that he has to spend a year on the island with no connections or food or resources. he kinda makes it idk how lmao but he doesn't really connect with civilization he just has a vague idea of the seasons because of the sun patterns and stars and weather etc. maybe he makes sea friends and they bring him food who knows. flounder and sebastian for dinner yum. anyways he is about to give up and kind of goes crazy on the night that she comes back so he tries to 'go back home' but he can't turn back into a merman so he'll end up dying, and that's when she saves him !
and then they fall in love and it turns out he is the son of the sea king or something (yay!) ((cliche but that's okay)) and his dad visits him in a wave while he's chilling on the pier with her like woah hey dad it's been a while and then his dad is like 'as the AlmiGHTy poseidion u can marry my son' and then the world is in harmony bc rich girl just married random boy she found on an exotic island™.
okay it wouldn't really be that ugly but it's oKaY! u get the point. lmk if u want a part three with like him adjusting to the high life or smth cuz that would be cute lol
