"What are you listening to?"
Jungkook's face invaded your line of vision as you gazed at the stars, making you scoff.
Even if the new view wasn't bad.
But you would never admit that.
After his relentless prodding, acting almost childlike, you mentally gave up the prospect of a peaceful night.
"Here," you grunted, pulling out an ear bud, a worn and nearly broken one, and he took it eagerly. His eyes lit up as the smooth voice of some singer-you hadn't bothered searching up her name filled him. Chances were, this song was a hundred years old, and the singer was long gone and dead. Happened so many times you stopped bothering to find out who the singers of your favorite songs were.
Our favorite songs.
This was the day and age when nearly everything was discovered. There was no room for creativity, because what was left to be created?
Every atom, every molecule, every law of science and space and whatever fucking shit was already discovered. Every combination of music notes and chords and pitches was used, not one person had a unique or new voice. It was already heard.
So when the other orphans who used to bug you made fun of you for not listening to the new shit that crappy artists were spewing left and right, well. Who ever said you needed someone ruling your life.
All you need is Jungkook. And it's always been that way, and it always will be.
Its the year 20100.
Times have changed.
Vague memories of having a sweet faced mother, an intelligent and caring father. Those are what kept you going. This shitty world that is nearly dead, nearly gone already.
So there is one thing that wasn't found yet.
If scientists are so good at destroying the earth, why couldn't they fix it? Cant they find a cure for that? A cure for the earth? Why does the atmosphere have to be so thin that simply going out in the sun could give you second degree burns? Third degree if you're absolutely stupid.
Why are the streets run rampant with orphans whose parents were killed in a shitty attempt to cure a disease? A disease that, granted, took some lives. But when the international government made it mandatory for all, none left out, to get vaccines, vaccines to make the world a better place. They never would have known. Which is strange, considering they missed the key component that red blood cells are fucking important. And that by releasing an iron depleting chemical into every human alive at that time, well, half the population was gone overnight. Half. Went from over populated to underpopulated. An epidemic swept across the already broken earth, and the people were already so weak. The population was reduced to a fourth.
Jungkook and you, well, your parents didn't make it. They sent you off, with this strange boy who's mom begged you to take him. Seemed about your age. But you wouldn't know, you're both orphans now.
The world is in this typical setup that you vaguely remember from sneaking into an elementary school. Happened to listen in on a history lesson.
"The rich are treated first, and peasants and orphans are last. Like ancient Greece, Rome, China."
The teacher had turned onto her stunned class, a tight lipped smile on her face.
"Like now."
She took a deep breath, and even from far away, you could see her hands shaking.
