An unknown number flashed across the screen of his phone. He hadn't heard from Kaycee and it was almost dark. Alan answered.

"Hello."

Mr. Rickman?"

"Yes?" The man on the other line took a deep breath.

"My name is Doctor Tanya Jackson from the London Medical Center. I am calling in regard to Kaycee Greyson." Alan felt his heart in his throat.

"What's happened?" Tanya took another deep breath.

"She's been in a terrible accident." Alan hung up the phone and drove as fast as he could. He raced through the halls of the large hospital before finding Dr. Tanya Jackson.

"Where is she? I need to see her. What happened?" Alan looked around and spotted Alexa, Shawn, and Julia. Tanya ushered him to a chair ad sat next to him.

"She was in a collision with an 18-wheeler and the car flipped multiple times. When she was brought in by the paramedics; she had concussion and a broken femur. But there are much more severe injuries that we are focused on." Alan took a deep breath, his knuckles white as he clutched the arms of the chair. "She has multiple rib fractures with a punctured lung and a myocardial contusion. She has been taken in for surgery. I will update you when I can." And with that, the tall, tan doctor stood and went back into the operating room. Alan sat with his head in his hands in silence as he waited for Dr. Jackson to return. Alan had barely looked at the clock, the longer he sat there the more he panicked. They had been operating on her for the past 5 hours. Julia had gone to get everyone coffee and Alexa sat next to Alan holding his and Shawn's hands.

"I'm sure she'll be okay." Alexa spoke softly, her voice wasn't very confident. Alan didn't even lift his head.

"Do you believe that?" No one spoke. After Julia returned with caffeine, they continued to sit in silence until the sound of a gurney moving across the floor caused Alan to raise his head. He saw Kaycee and felt himself drop to his knees. She was alive, that's what counted in this very moment. She was alive. Alan stood and followed the doctors to the room and watched as they adjusted Kaycee's intubation and central lines. Dr. Jackson walked out and placed a hand on Alan's shoulder.

"She is stable, for now." Alan sighed and didn't waste another second as he pulled a chair next to the bed and sat down, taking her hand in his.

"I'm here, my love. I'm not going anywhere." Alan kissed her hand and rested his head down onto the bed. He would stay all night if he had too.

Alan had managed to drift off to sleep, for a few hours but he awoke to a monitor beeping with doctors and nurses rushing frantically around the small room, then racing the gurney back to the operating room, and Alan went back into the waiting room and sat in the small uncomfortable chair and waited. The on-call doctor found him 2 hours later.

"Hello, sir." Alan stood.

"Doctor, how is she?" The young male doctor frowned slightly and sat down next to Alan, who slowly sat down.

"She's a trooper I'll tell you that. Her heart contusions where much more serious than we thought. There was a small tear in the lining of her heart from one of her rib fractures. It wasn't seen during the lung repair. She is doing much better now, although there was some unwanted swelling in her brain but it was very minor. We'll keep an eye on it for the next few days until she wakes up." Alan found himself hopeful.

"So, she'll wake up." The doctor placed a hand on Alan's shoulder before he stood.

"We hope." Alan nodded and the doctor walked away, leaving Alan to wander back into Kaycee's room. He flopped down into chair and began to speak.

"Kaycee, I don't..I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can.. please wake up. Heal, get better, and wake up dammit because I can't live my life without you. You're the reason I want to keep going in this life. I love you so damn much. Please, wake up." Alan rested his head in his hands. "Please." He felt his chest become heavy as he began to cry and squeeze her hand. "Come back to me."
