Alan had been being extra careful when it came to Kaycee. He didn't want to give her a reason to leave him. He would call or text her whenever he would go somewhere and he'd keep her updated until the minute he got home. It was almost the equivalent to dealing with a teenager. Kaycee didn't necessarily find anything wrong with it, she thought it was sweet that Alan was putting in so much effort. She still was having a hard time trusting him. They had moved extremely fast the last time they were together and Kaycee wanted to make sure that she wouldn't make the same mistakes as last time. So, she let Alan do what he needed to while she focused on her work. Since she had become Chief of Investigation she had been loaded with all new kinds of stress. She missed working with the files, not doing all the crap filing work. She loved her promotion though. She was finally able to be independent enough to do things. She upgraded from her little black Volkswagen beetle to a dark silver Nissan Rouge. She had also managed to put away a significant amount of money as well, in case she wanted to pursue other things. Maybe she would treat herself to nice vacation soon or maybe she'd quit. She sighed and ran her fingers weakly through her hair. As she was working through files her phone began to go off. She picked it up and read the screen. Of course it was Alan. She swiped the screen and put it up to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Hello, love." Kaycee smiled.
"What's up?"
"I'm done shooting for today and I was wondering if you wanted to get lunch?" Kaycee sat back in her chair, glaring at the files that were strewn about the table.
"Yes, please." Alan chuckled.
"Rough day?" Kaycee scoffed.
"Understatement." Alan sighed.
"You could always ask to be demoted back to head of criminal profiling?" Kaycee smiled at the thought.
"Yeah, maybe. We'll see." Alan chuckled.
"I'll come get you now." Kaycee sighed.
"Okay." And with that Alan hung up the phone. Kaycee went upstairs and changed into something a bit more presentable and returned downstairs just as Alan pulled into the driveway. Kaycee grabbed her phone and her purse and went outside. Alan was standing outside his truck, waiting for her. He always stood and waited for her, mostly because he like receiving a proper greeting, which was adorable. Kaycee walked up to him and leaned up to kiss him. He returned it happily, pulling her in close. She seemed to instantly relax as his hands wrapped around her waist. Alan noted this as he broke the kiss.
"Ready?" Kaycee nodded and they both entered the vehicle.
"So, were are we going?" Alan smiled.
"Where was out first date?" Kaycee smiled remembering Olive Garden and the wine cellar. Alan saw Kaycee's face and smiled. "I knew you'd like it."
When they arrived they were immediately brought to a small table in the back of the restaurant, it was much more private. The waiter brought over some wine and menus and left them to look it over. Alan poured wine into both glasses and looked up at Kaycee, who was chewing her bottom lip as she looked over the menu. Alan couldn't help but picture himself tugging on it with his teeth. He smirked at the thought. Alan had changed since they were apart. He had become much more...educated about certain things. Things he wanted to show Kaycee. He had so many thoughts involving Kaycee, but she had said she wanted to take things slow and Alan wanted to respect her wishes.
"Darling?" Kaycee immediately looked up.
"Hmm?" Her bottom lip was still between her teeth.
"Have you decided?" Kaycee did a quick once over of the page and nodded.
"I think so." Alan smiled and waved the waiter over. They placed their orders and the waiter disappeared. Kaycee took a sip of her wine and began tracing the rim of the glass with her finger.
