The next few days where painfully slow for Alan. He wanted it to be Friday so he could take Kaycee home. He had been making the arrangements at the house. Setting up the bedroom, hiring helpers and nurses, and making sure that the house was stocked with everything that Kaycee loved. When Friday came, he arrived at the hospital around 8 am, clearly more than ready to bring her home. When he got to her room, she was not there. A nurse entered, a very blank expression on her face. Alan braced a nearby chair expecting the worst. It was at that moment that a second figure slowly entered the room. Alan sighed, relieved. He walked up to her and hugged her tightly against him. Kaycee gripped a fistful of his shirt and inhaled deeply. She had missed him terribly. Once Kaycee had signed all the necessary discharge papers, her and Alan made their way to the car. When they reached it, Kaycee paused. Alan noticed her hesitation.
"Darling?" His low baritone voice caused her to relax slightly. She had been in some sort of trance, replaying her accident over and over in her head. "Come back to me, love." He was standing in front of her now, caressing her cheek with his thumb. She blinked hard then met his gaze. "Are you alright?" She nodded slowly and allowed Alan to usher her into the truck. They had managed to get to the highway without hitting a multitude of traffic. Kaycee had rarely flinched, unless Alan had slammed on his brakes because of an incompetent driver. They made it home within an hour. Alan had gently helped Kaycee out of the truck, letting her slowly slide down his torso until her feet gently reached the ground. She looked up at him and smiled gently. He smiled down at her and kissed her forehead, helping her into the house. He placed her on the couch before heading back outside to gather the rest of her things. Kaycee noticed a few people in the house and gave Alan a questioning look. "They're here to help you with whatever you need, but for today you all are free to go." Kaycee nodded slowly and gave a small smile to the small group of people exiting the house, not wanting to argue. She knew she'd lose if she tried. Alan went to the couch and picked her up bridal style and carried her to their bedroom. Once she was settled into bed, Alan climbed in next to her and pulled her to him. She sighed against his chest.
"I've missed you."
"And I, you." He kissed her temple. She fell asleep within the hour and Alan quietly slipped away to get some work done. He sat down at his desk and released an agitated groan when there was a knock at the door. He slowly stood and ambled towards the door. He was greeted by a very unwanted face. "What.." Alan's face had contorted into a scowl. Diana sauntered through the door.
"How is the little dear? So tragic." She floated down onto the sofa and smirked at Alan, who was clearly flustered. "Where is the little flower?"
"She fine and she upstairs sleeping." He crossed his arms over his chest. "You shouldn't be here, Diana." She nodded plainly then spoke.
"Well, I came to check on Kaycee." He rose an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Why? You cursed her name every damn day." She chuckled softly.
"Well-" She went to speak but was interrupted by a floor panel creaking. Alan turned and sighed when he saw Kaycee leaning against the arm of the couch.
"Diana." She acknowledged the woman plainly. Diana gave a nod. "To what do I owe the displeasure?" Kaycee's voice was still very hoarse and she was still in a great deal of pain. Alan helped usher her on to the couch as Diana spoke.
"I came to see how you were doing." Kaycee gave a light scoff.
"Seriously. Why are you here?" Alan attempted to hide a smirk, but failed as he let out a small chuckle. Diana stood, seeming offended. Alan walked to the door and opened it, motioning her to walk out of it. She made another sound of taken-offense then stomped out the door. Alan gave a heavy sigh as he closed and locked the door behind him. He turned towards Kaycee and smiled at her as she held out her arms. He flopped gently next to her and pulled her into him.
"How are you feeling though, love?" She gave a small smile.
"Not as bad as yesterday." Alan returned the smile and kissed her temple.
"That's an improvement." She nodded. They sat on the couch in silence for a while until Alan stood and scooped Kaycee into his arms and brought her back to the bedroom so she could rest comfortably.
