Kaycee had made it through the next few days without any serious complications, which Alan was told was a good sign. Alan had allowed himself to leave her side to take a shower and change into the clothes that Taylor brought for him. Taylor, along with several others, brought flowers to Kaycee and they covered the room in bright, vivid colors. Alexa thought that Kaycee would appreciate it. Kaycee's friends and immediate family came to visit the other day but they hadn't stayed long.
Alan was the only one who had stayed the whole time. Dr. Jackson came in while he was on the phone with the others.
"Her vitals are good and she seems to be healing nicely. No. Yes. I will. Bye." Alan smiled at the doctor. "Tanya, how is everything?"
"Busy, but good. Kaycee is doing well too. We're just waiting on her now." Alan sighed and leaned in to Kaycee's ear.
"If you wake up, I'll buy you a puppy." He waited and scoffed lightly seeing the ineffectiveness of his bribe. The doctor and Alan exchanged weak smiles before Alan left for the cafeteria. As he waited in line, he began to think about what life would be like without her...if she didn't make it. He's be miserable, thats for sure. Would he ever be able to move on? He cringed softly at the thought. A life without her, wasn't worth living. Alan sat down at a table and began to pick at his food. He barely had an appetite and whatever he did eat, never stayed down for long. His nerves had always gotten the best of him. When he came, back the small room was crowded so he sat and waited for everyone to file out. He figured it was doctors or nurses. He hadn't been paying attention. Once the room had emptied, he entered the room placing his items on a chair. He turned to Kaycee.
"The line at the cafeteria was ridicu-" He did a double take and stood there, frozen. He hadn't realized that she had been the reason everyone was so happy. She was there with him. Kaycee began to giggled, wincing slightly afterwards. Alan continued to look at her, her bright green eyes gazing up at him. The intubation had been taken out and her central line was gone. Alan took a deep breath and smiled, taking in her smile that made him breathless.
"Hi." Her voice was a raspy whisper. Alan felt tears well in his eyes as he slowly walked over to her and leaned down to kiss her, which he did with fervor and an abundance of passion.
"You're awake." She nodded, cupping his face and giggling softly. "How I've missed you, my love." She nodded quickly with tears in her eyes, obviously reciprocating his feelings, and kissed him again. They had laid together for a few hours, surprisingly undisturbed. Alan had stretched and looked at the clock. It was almost seven at night. He sighed and looked down at Kaycee. "I should probably go soon." Kaycee frowned. "I'll find out if you can come home soon." Kaycee nodded and kissed Alan before he got up and went to find Dr. Jackson.
"Within the next few days. I want to make sure she's stable, but yes, she can go home this week." Alan smiled and shook the doctors hand, thanking her before racing back to his flat to get everything ready.
