Once back in the Glade you couldn't help but crash down onto the grass. "That....was...close" you panted out softly as you felt Thomas laid down next to you. You all had just found the way out, things truly did seem to look up. You looked over to Thomas and smiled, he looked right back into your eyes as you felt him take your hand into his own. You couldn't help but feel all warm inside, he truly did make you feel something.
Sure you couldn't make sense of your own memories, but you really did like the idea of being with Thomas then and even now, as you laid there on the grass side by side. "We should go inform the others" Minho said as he sat there across from you, catching his breathe. "Just a little long" Thomas said as you watched him close his eyes, your eyes looked back towards the sky above. Soon enough you would be free. After the three of you finally caught your breathe you began to head to where the others were.
You could fee a large number of them ahead, you could heard Gally's loud voice speaking. "Y/N has been nothing but trouble from the moment she got here" he said. You narrowed your eyes, it was one thing to talk about someone but to do it behind their back to others, was something very different. Thomas lead you though the group, you could see most of the Gladers were there listening to every word that seemed to leave Gally's mouth. "I'm getting that much on your nerves?" you asked with a smirk on your lips. "Or are you piss that I'm more willing to look for away to get us out of this maze?" Gally jumped off the stage and marched over to you. But before he could even reach you, Thomas stepped before you. "Enough" he said. " We don't have time for this"
When told pretty much to shut up, you wanted as Gally's cheeks went from a lightly pink to a dark red. It was clear he was ready to blow his top, but held it in as Thomas began to speak. It was then you noticed Thesea was with them. You simply smiled towards her. Thomas on the other hand moved to the front as he spoke, telling them all just what had been found when your small group had returned to the maze, how away out had finally been found. Some seemed nervous about the idea, where as others had their spirits lifted when told. But as always in the group there was one face that pretty much was against it all and it was non other than Gally.
You could tell he was ready to get into it all and tell you all just what he thought, but before he could even open his mouth. There was shouted from outside. "What the...?" you said, your eyes darted around to see what the problem was and it was very clear. The way into the maze was still open, you know by now it should be closed or at least be closing. But there it was wide open, almost as if it was an open invite to the Grievers. "We need to guard it" You said, but no sooner has you said this, an opening in the south open. Another in the west and also the east opened, you couldn't believe. You were open on all sides.
You felt Thomas come beside you and lightly take your hand into his. Just as you thought things couldn't get worse, there was a loud roar. "Grievers" you said as any colour that had been in your face was gone. You looked as pale as a ghost as you felt Thomas give your hand a squeeze. You looked towards him, he looked worried but you had a feeling he'd keep you safe. "We need to get to the main building" Thomas said before he took off running, your hand very much in his. This of course left you with very little choice but to run with him.
You could heard the others behind you, even some running passed. Even as you ran thought the tall grass, you could see gladers being massacred by the Grievers. You want to run and help them, you wanted to fight and not run for a chance. But it seemed Thomas had other ideas.
*Thomas's POV*
I need to get them to safety, to the nearest building and to block off the door, I thought as I ran holding Y/N's hand in my own. Most importantly, I need to keep her safe. The longer I spent time with her, the closer to her I felt. Almost as if we lived another life together, a life so different from this living nightmare that we were going through. I looked back and made sure that everyone was keeping up, even as I did. Other Gladers were being picked off one by one.
It was almost as if the grievers had all this planned, that they were getting pay back for what I did to the other griever. As we reached the main house, I made sure Y/N as well as Teresa were both inside before I saw Chuck with a few other gladers come, bring Alby along with them. He was awake, at least that was something. Once we were all in the main house, I had everyone help barricade ourselves in. I wasn't sure how stronge this building was or even if it would keep them out. But it was better than trying nothing.
For a brief moment my eyes drifted over to Y/N, she was helping with making the barricade stronger. I knew it hadn't been along but I really had hoped to get to know her better.
Bang!
Part of the roof ripped was ripped into by a griever. I grabbed the nearest object to me, which was a spear and began to fight it back as it tried to reach in. Most likely in the hopes of grabbing at least one of us to add to the list of Gladers who may already be died outside.
Just as I thought I had the upper hand, to my horror I watched as Chuck was grabbed. I felt my heart leap out of my throat as I made a grab for his hand. It was then I felt Y/N's arms around my middle, she pulled me back. As the others come to help, Alby stabbed it with a spear and with the joint pulling, the Griever let go and for a second we really thought it was over. I sighed softly. "Are you alright Chuck?" I asked as I felt Y/N behind me still, her face lightly pressed into my back.
*Your POV*
Your heart was beating light crazy, you really thought for a short second that you were going to lost not only Chuck but Thomas too. You were just glad that you were not the only quick thinker or at least reckless one. "Don't you ever scare me like that again" you whispered to him softly, you blushed as you felt his hands run over his. But the short break was short lived as the griever returned and made a grab for Alby. You watched as Thomas rushed from your arms and grabbed Alby's hand. "Get them out of here" Alby said before he was pulled free from the building.
You couldn't help but feel shocked, Alby was so nice to everyone, a real born leader. He really didn't deserve to died like that. Thomas sighed as he walked over to were you were. "We can do this" you reminded him, Thomas nodded. You know Thomas would keep his word to Alby, he would get them out.
