I've waited for three days. It's spring break. I literally cannot wait anymore. I have to talk to her. I just need to find her first. Which could be a problem, because I don't know where she is.
I get into my car and drive to Avery's house. When I pull in, it doesn't look like anyone is home, but I still decide to knock on her front door. I knock a couple of times, but there's no answer. Right when I decide to give up on her house, when her brother opens the door.
“Logan. Hello.”
“Oh uh, hi. How are you?”
“I'm fine. Are you looking for Avery?”
“Yeah, actually. Can you tell me where she is?” I'm desperate for answers.
“I can, as long as you promise me one thing.”
“Okay. What?”
“If you promise that you're not going to hurt my baby sister, and if you can prove it to me, then I'll tell you where she is.”
“How can I prove that?”
“Tell me how much you like her.” I grunt and groan for a couple of minutes. I don't have time for this shit. I need to get to Avery. “Tick-tock Logan.”
“Ugh. Fine. I like her because she challenges me to be better, push harder. She doesn't give up easily. She loves cars and knows how to handle them. When she sings, her voice can fill the void and captivate everyone. Her eyes sparkle when she's doing something she loves. I love her because she's the one person in the world who singled me out from the crowd and instead of me keeping girls on their toes, she kept me on mine. I love her because she makes me think. I love her.” Then it dawns on me. Did I just say love? The “L” word? Yeah, I guess I did. “I don't just like Avery. I love her. Now if you could please tell me where she went, I'd be happy to prove that to her myself.” Her brother is in shock and awe. He uncrosses his arms and stares at me.
“She left for Myrtle Beach, for a surfing competition. About 45 minutes ago. It's a two hour drive. If you speed a little bit, you should be able to catch up to her.”
“Thank you Jackson!” I run back to my car as fast as I can. I need to get the hell out of here.
“Good luck Logan! You'll need it.”
