“Lily come on! I'm leaving!”
“WAIT!” Lily screams. I wait patiently for my little sister to come and say good-bye to me. It's time for me to leave for college. Mom is trying to make sure I have everything in the T-Bird, and that nothing is missing. She doesn't want to admit it, but she really doesn't want me to leave. My family has grown so much, and it makes me sad to leave.
Lily comes running and almost tackles me to the ground when she runs into my chest. I'm really sad to leave her, but I'm only four hours away.
“So promise you'll take care of mom while I'm gone?” I ask my little sister.
“I'll be fine honey! Don't worry about me!” My mom calls from outside. I roll my eyes and chuckle at her.
“I will Logan!” she promises.
“That's my girl.” I say proudly. Lily has grown so much over the last year. She has a sleepover almost every weekend now, and she always asks if she can go and hang out with her friends. She's made tremendous progress since dad died. I think it helped that Avery came over and played with her. Avery also helped me get the T-Bird up and running, and every weekend we have a little show off, so far she's ahead by four wins.
Avery broke up with that tool, Owen, and a week later we started dating. We've been together ever since. She's helped me and my family so much, I can't even begin to describe how happy I am to be with her. I know I've helped her too, she's put together a surfing team at school, which has been very successful, she also tries out for more solos in choir. She's become really outgoing, and stepping out of her comfort zone. I've never been more proud to call anyone my girlfriend more than her. Owen glares at us every once in a while, but we shrug it off, because we have each other.
I actually grew to have a mutual understanding with Skinny Girl, and I got her and Ben to date. They've been together for about six months.
“Logan! Avery's here!” Lily squeals.
“Oh is she now?” I watch Avery as she comes to my door, looking as gorgeous as she always does. “Well hello beautiful.”
“Well hi!” she giggles as she comes into my embrace. “Ready to get going?” Avery and I got accepted into the same college, and I'm so ready to start a new year.
“Yep! All set. Do you have all your stuff?”
“Yeah, all packed up and ready to go. My family cried, even Jackson.”
“Well they're your family, they love you, of course their going to cry.”
“Yeah yeah yeah. Hi Lily!” Avery waves to Lily and smiles affectionately.
“Hi Avery!”
I grab onto Avery's hands and pull her outside with me. I take one last look at the town where I met the first girl I ever loved, then I look to her.
“How did I ever get so lucky?”
“Hm, I don't really know.”
“Was it my irresistible charm? My rugged good looks? My car?” I tease.
“Oh, just shut up and drive. I gotta get to my dorm and move stuff in.” She kisses me on the cheek, then pounces into her car. “Let's go!” I watch her pull out of my driveway as I start the T-Bird, then I look at the two pairs of keys on the passenger's seat next to me, which belong to an apartment off campus that we're both moving into. My future begins now, and I'm glad she's a part of it.
