Chapter 2: Stalling Time

   Y/N'S POV

  As I made my way past the guards, I made sure not to attract too much attention to myself.
  I spotted Mother speaking with one of the senators before I waited patiently for her to finish. If I pulled her into conversation immediately, then she would expect that I was hiding something.

  After Mother finished speaking to those around her, she spotted me before she turned to the guards as she said,"Leave us."

  After everyone left, Mother smiled at me before she said,"It's always great to see you, my darling. What do you wish to speak about?"

  I smiled at Mother before I answered,"Nothing much. I just wanted to tell you that my training went well today, and I really feel like I'm almost strong as Diana. Isn't that great?"

  Mother chuckled, but she walked up to me as she said,"That's wonderful, my child. I know that you admire your sister, as do many of our dear Amazons, but remember to be yourself. You are special, Y/N, and I want you to always remember that. Where's your sister?"

  I froze for a second, but I regained my composure as I answered,"Diana needed to get some fresh air. She was feeling a little off from the battle earlier. Don't worry, Mother. I'm taking great care of her. Enough about Diana, why are you looking at me like that, Mother?"

  Mother cupped my face as she said,"I remember the day you were born..."

  I groaned, then I sighed before I said,"Mother. You never do this with Diana."

  Mother smiled, yet she stroked my cheek as she said,"The second that I saw you, I knew that you were going to be extraordinary. When Diana first laid her eyes on you, she was eager to step up and take care of you. From that moment on, I knew that she would do everything in her power to have your back while you would do the same for her. Is Diana planning on leaving her home to help this man?"

  I kept my mouth shut because I promised Diana that I would keep Mother from coming after her.

  Mother walked around me, but then she sighed before she said,"Y/N, I know how close the two of you are, but it won't change the fact that Diana may get hurt out there in man's world. She's safer here, where I can watch both of you. You don't want her to get hurt, do you?"

  I shook my head before I answered Mother,"No. Of course not, but Mother-"

  Before I could say anything else, one of the guards ran into the room as she said,"Sorry to interrupt, Hippolyta, but we have spotted Diana with the pilot."

  I frowned. Mother looked at me before she made her way out of the palace immediately before getting onto her horse.

  I ran to my own before I heard Mother yell,"Y/N?!!"

  I had to get to Diana before she did. I took a shortcut, but that shortcut wasn't as short as I thought it was. Mother was already at the dock with Diana and Steve Trevor while her guards were in the back.

  I sent Diana an apologetic look, but Diana just sent me a small smile before she walked over to Mother.

  She took a deep breath, and then she said,"I'm going, Mother. I cannot stand by while innocent lives are lost. If no one else will defend the world from Ares, then I must. I have to go."

  I got off my own horse while Mother got down, too, before she said,"I know. At least I know I cannot stop you. There is so much. So much you do not understand."

  Diana said confidently,"I understand enough. And I am willing to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Like you once did."

  Mother said,"You know that if you choose to leave, you may never return."

  Diana said,"Who will I be if I stay?"

  I smiled at Diana, then Mother and her talked. I noticed Steve looking at me, and he sent me an awkward wave. I just chuckled before I waved back.

  I motioned to Diana while I mouthed to Steve,"Take care of her."

  Steve nodded and sent me a smile, then I nodded to him before climbing back onto my horse. I wanted to go with Diana and Steve, but I wasn't sure if it was my place to leave Themyscira.

  When I went to say something to Diana, Mother said,"Y/N, you'll be accompanying Diana. There's no one that I trust more than my youngest daughter to protect her. Come here, Y/N."

  I got off my horse and made my way to Mother before she looked between Diana and me as she said,"You two have been my greatest creations. Be careful in the world of man. I know that they do not deserve the two of you. Be brave and watch over each other. Understood?"

  Diana and I nodded, but then Diana walked onto the boat, and Mother said to me,"I will miss the two of you, greatly, but I know that some good will come from you two being together. Y/N, you are stronger than you know. Do return when you are finished in man's world. I love you, my dear."

  I smiled at Mother as tears formed in my eyes before I said to her,"I love you, too, Mother. Don't worry, I'll watch over Steve Trevor, too."

  Mother nodded, and I hugged her before she hugged me back. This was hard for me since I was so close to Mother, but I knew that it was only time that caused this to happen this early.
  Mother pulled away from the hug and kissed my forehead, then she waved to Diana and Steve.

  Steve seemed surprised, but he smiled before waving back to Mother. Diana sent Mother a smile. Next, I quickly got on the boat and watched as Themyscira seemed to get further and further away from us.
  I felt a hand on my shoulder before I smiled up at Diana. However, I looked back to see Themyscira was gone. Out of sight.
