Chapter 19: Sorrow

   Y/N'S POV

  Once I made it back to the ground, I looked around to see Sameer and Charlie helping each other while The Chief put his arm around a young soldier, who had been fighting for the opposing side.
  Then, I saw Steve. He walked up to me before he pulled me in for a hug. I hugged him back as I buried my face in his neck.

  Steve rubbed my back as he said,"Princess, it's okay. It's okay. It's over."

  Tears formed in my eyes, and I said,"But Steve, D.. Diana..."

  Steve shushed me and held me tighter while I let my tears fall. Sameer, Charlie, and The Chief joined in on the hug.
  However, I had to pull away to walk over to Diana's body.

  I leaned over her, but I took her hand as I said,"I... I'm so sorry, Diana. If... If I had been faster, then you would have... have still been here. I... I miss you already. I... I just wished that things would have been different. You... You didn't deserve this, and... and I would do anything to... to have my older sister back. Diana, you can wake up now. It's... It's over. Diana."

  Tears poured down my face while I held on tighter to Diana's cold hand.

  I held it to my face, and Steve said softly,"Baby."

  I began to shake Diana, yelling,"DIANA?!! DIANA!! PLEASE!! DIANA, I STOPPED ARES! YOU CAN WAKE UP NOW!! NO! NO!! Please."

  I broke down as I leaned over Diana before Steve rested his hand on my shoulder.

  He said,"Princess, we gotta go."

  I snapped at Steve, yelling,"NO!! YOU'RE ALL THE REASON WHY MY SISTER'S GONE!! IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR YOUR PEOPLE, THEN ARES WOULDN'T HAVE KILLED DIANA!!"

  Steve grabbed me, and I struggled against his grip, yelling,"NO! NO! STEVE, LET ME GO!! I PROMISED MOTHER THAT I WOULDN'T LEAVE DIANA!! Steve... I...I promised."

  I stopped fighting against Steve's grip, and he pulled me in for another hug.
 
  I hugged him back, and he kissed my forehead before he said,"You'll get through this. I'll be with you, okay?"

  I looked up at Steve, and he wiped my tears slowly.

  I sniffed before I said,"You promise?"

  Steve nodded before he said,"Princess, I promise. I promise."

  Steve let me continue to hug him while he turned to the group as he said,"Time to go back to London. Also, we need to take Diana home."

  Once we got on the plane, Steve laid Diana down across my lap. The plane was already bothering me because of how I could've lost Steve, but I did my best to push past that, too.
 
  I moved Diana's hair out of her face before Sameer said to me,"Y/N, I'm sorry about Diana."

  I nodded before I said,"T...Thanks, Sameer. It means a lot to me. I just... don't know how to face Mother."

  Sameer gave me a sympathetic look, and Steve took my hand. He placed a kiss on it, and it wasn't long before we arrived in London.
  When we arrived in London, everyone was cheering and celebrating for the end of the war. I just gave my best smile, even though I had literally just lost my only sibling.

  Steve held onto my hand the whole time as I felt a heavy weight on the inside.
  Once it was over, Steve took me back to where he was staying. He placed Diana on the sofa before he noticed me looking at her.

  He said,"Princess, look at me. This isn't your fault. If your sister was still here, she wouldn't want you to-"

  I chuckled, and then I said in frustration,"Steve, that's the problem!! She's not here because of me!! Steve, Mother will hate me. She will literally never trust me again!! She'll make me leave Themyscira! I won't have a home."

  Steve rested his hands on my shoulders as he told me,"Take deep breaths, Y/N. Let's say that your mother does kick you out, right? You'll still have a home here. With me. I know that we have only known each other for so long, but I refuse to let you live with some other guy out there. It's not safe, Princess. It's not."

  I smiled before I said,"You sound a little desperate, Steven."

  Steve rolled his eyes, which caused me to laugh.

  Steve said,"Look. You're smiling!! Only I can make you smile like that, so you might as well stay if you need somewhere to stay. Right?"

  I said,"Right, but S-"

  Steve covered my mouth as he said,"Princess, don't even finish that sentence. How about you stay for one night? We get some proper things to take care of Diana, and then you go back to see your mother. Deal?"

  Steve held out his hand, and I said,"Deal."
