A year after our Beta Mate epilogue.
She sat picking up sand in her play bucket and emptying it on the ground, looking proudly at the heap which in her eyes was a masterpiece.
"Hey!" She heard a boy yell out in her general direction but she wasn't the popular one, no, she was the one everyone set aside. After a few tries at making friends she realized that it wasn't her lack of social skills but something else that pushed the kids away.
She continued to sculpt the sand into deformed balls and placing them along side each other.
"You! Human child!" Now she knew they wanted her, they had referred to her as the human child plenty of times and she had gone and enquired about it too. When she had asked her mom, the only answer she got was to ignore them and not let their words affect her. She was confused, but a preschooler doesn't dwell much on things. She looked up to see a group of boys standing near her play pen. She gave them a questioning look but didn't speak a word.
They came closer but she stood her ground, frowning at their nearing figures.
"My name is Kiara." She stated, her words slipping due to the missing front teeth."No one cares what your name is!" Now they stood arms length from her and they towered over her small figure but that didn't seem to faze her as she stood with her head held high.
One of them pushed her to the ground as the others joined to laugh at her expense."What are you going to do?" He smirked at her as they kept pushing her down.
She at first told them to stop but as none of them listened she took to showing her strength."I said, stop." She yelled slapping the boys cheek with all the force she could master. Her actions had stopped everyone as silence surrounded them.
The one she slapped slowly covered his cheek and turned his face to look at her again, his eyes red with rage.
"How d-" He had started, stepping towards her threateningly but a body came and stood before her.Brandon had jumped into action after witnessing Maddox take a step towards Kiara.
"Leave her alone." He had said, his voice hard and composed."Don't get into this, Brad." Maddox was a year older than Brandon but both stood shoulder to shoulder.
"Leave her alone." He repeated again with more assertiveness, narrowing his eyes at Maddox. They had a small stare down before Maddox backed out, taking his buddies with him."Are you okay?" Brandon inquired after he saw them leave. What surprised him was that she didn't look one bit scared or threatened, just nonchalant.
"Yeah. Thank you." She was grateful for his help but she also liked facing her own devils.
"Hey, you did very good there." He said encouraging."That's really nice for you to say. I'm Kiara." She said, putting a friendly smile and going back to shaping the heaps of sand.
"I'm Brandon. It's nice to meet you, Ki-Ki." She cringed at his nickname for her but didn't say much, he seemed pretty proud to have come up with it.
"It's nice to meet you too, Bran." She soon found herself frowning at her choice of name but his laughter stopped her."Will you be my friend, Ki-Ki?"
Not too far away, the little girls grandmother stood glaring at her. In her hand a worn out page holding words that read the future of the carefree child.
The prophecy meant so much to the older lady, but all pain she had gone through all those years of planning to prevent the creation of the girl that now made friends all in vain.
The child's days were numbered for the prophecy could no longer to delayed.
She crumpled the paper in her hands, if only her immature daughter had listened to her and mated with the Beta.It was only time before Kiara found her mate and her powers would be granted. The ones that would be bring chaos in the werewolf realm.
