Brandon's POV

"Sweetheart, are you feeling okay?" I asked a perturbed Kiara. It had been weeks since Jace's departure and all was going well on his side. Though the pack members were under a close watch, they had not created any problem for Alpha Jason yet.

Kiara had taken up the task to master her strengths but with every passing day, I felt as though I lost her piece by piece. I tried stopping her several times from using her powers yet she claimed it was her destiny. Concern was all I felt when I saw her in the following days to that statement.

It seemed that something was bothering her inside her head and I could not quite reach her to pull her out of it. I was no longer needed to help her access the auric wolf, she did all her practice alone, against my wishes. She wanted to concentrate, she said, wanted to be in control. Which part of her? I often found myself question.
I shadowed her most of the times but I had responsibilities I could not turn away from.

"I'm good." She planted a haste kiss on my lips only to deepen my suspicion. Her eyes looked different, and it wasn't the colour this time.
"I have to go somewhere, how about we meet for lunch?" I asked, hoping I figure something out till then.

"I'll meet you soon." A smile was etched on her face yet it didn't reach her eye.
Ryder, is Aria doing well? I asked my routine question.
A bit more closed off today, but just the same. I'm concerned about our mate. I agreed with him but we both had not found a way to get out of this mess. I feared that Kiara would be too far for me to bring back.

I was quick to call Aunt Lucy, her and Charlie had to go back since his job only granted the leave for a few days.

"Hey, Brandon. How are things?" She answered with a edge of worry.

"Not good, I'm afraid. I'm growing increasingly distressed by her behaviour." I did not want to drag her into this but it had reached a stage where I could not leave it unsaid.

"Do you wish to speak to my mother?" It was something I had thought over but it never found a satisfactory end.

"Do you think she could be of any assistance?"

"No harm in trying." She said, "Is it the wolf? Is the auric wolf taking over?" I heard Charlie in the back ground.

"I will try my best to protect your daughter. I would insist that both of you talk to her, she is stronger than the darkness inside her, remind her."

I hung up after a few goodbyes, I would not have brought them into this if I did not see the thing going south and it did.

Not a few minutes later, I knocked on the door of Kiara's grandmother.

"Back to save your precious mate?" She mocked holding the door open for me.

"You granddaughter." I corrected but her expression only turned sour.

"No granddaughter of mine will be such." I choose to ignore her mumbling for I had bigger problems to discuss.

"The book, are you sure it is guiding her for the better?" I asked directly.

"It was what it was intended for," She paused, her lips in a thin line,"but witches are not to be trusted."

"What do you mean?" I felt frustration seep in, "Why would you give it to us in the first place?"

"It was the only way for her to understand her power. It's all conjecture, her mental strength is what should protect her from the evil and you, of course." I frowned at her last words.

"What can I do?" I questioned instead of showing my rage at her previous actions for that would be useless for my mate.

"What mates do best, love her, make a bond with her that would over power the rest." She shifted her eyes, "that could also be her undoing in the end with you-" She did not finish her sentence but I knew very well what she wanted to convey.
