I cleared my throat to get his attention as he won't stop smiling at whatever it was that he was looking at on his phone, he didn't notice I've been waiting for him.
He finally looked up and for the life of me, wasn't it illegal to look this good? Perfect chocolate skin, he seems mixed, he didn't seem like he was an African American. I don't know he is just..
"Hello? Reina? Are you okay?" He was waving his hands in my face, now it was his turn to get my attention. Why was I even thinking about him like that? "You seemed to be in a daze."
I cleared my already cleared throat again. If my throat could talk, it'll be protesting already, I'm sure.
"I'm sorry sir, it has been a hectic day."
"You know you don't need to call me sir, it is just awkward." His voice was stern yet soft, deep yet light.
Was it just me or did he just put his phone aside to give me his full attention.
The man is probably just hungry.
Or his mother probably taught him to be polite.
"Like I told you the last time, it's part of my work ethics, sir. Good afternoon, pardon my manners and welcome to Sarah's Delight, here's the menu to look through." I handed him the menu, which he took without taking his eyes off me. I cleared my throat again and continued, "Or if you have something in mind already that you'll like to have, you can let me know and I'll see if we have-"
"Choose for me." He interrupted me, again. That is my thing, I do the interrupting when people talk. That was my role!
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" It seems pretending to be partially deaf was my thing today.
He smiled, handed me the menu he never even opened and said,
"Choose for me Reina, anything that doesn't have to do with fish."
"You don't eat fish? Why?"
"You will know that, when we go out tonight." his eyes twinkled.
I rolled my eyes and dumped my work ethics in a trash bin that existed in my mind only. I smiled politely and turned to leave when he grabbed my hand, it wasn't too firm to leave a mark but it was firm anyway. And it felt too normal, too proper.
And it shouldn't be.
"Can you let go off my hand sir? It's not appropriate." I said in my practiced work voice.
He didn't let go, he didn't lose eye contact either instead he just loosened his grip on my hand and I wriggled my hand free. I find it particularly annoying that the last thing I wanted to do is wriggle from his grip.
Once again, it shouldn't be.
"You are not going to stand me up, right?"
I wanted to say I wasn't going anywhere with him but then Hailey..
Hailey, I'm definitely going to kill her soon. She and she alone is the only reason why I'm going with this.
Hopefully..
"Right." I said quietly, I was surprised he heard over the noise from the people talking in the restaurant, the constant noise from the cars moving on the street and the soft melody played in the restaurant. He actually heard, because his eyes lit up in triumph.
I can't believe I'm actually going through with this.
Actually, I can believe it.
"I didn't hear you," he said like he read my mind. "I focused my eyes on your lips, which I must say isn't at all difficult." He said and immediately brought out his phone and started tapping away leaving me no chance to say anything else.
