I sighed not understanding what was up with  Hailey, she sounded so different, so hurt, so unlike her. I guess I wasn't the only one with issues, and when I say issues I mean life threatening and life changing issues. Maybe Hailey and I are even more similar than I think we are or maybe not. I followed her back into the restaurant and indeed it was a little packed. I took orders and served, keeping my eyes on Hailey the whole time. Her mood was sour for a while but she later returned to her normal cheerful self. Smiling to every single customer even the ones that were annoying the shit out of her. And that's something I find so difficult to do. It's not like it's my fault anyways, life hasn't really been fair on me. It's hard to smile when you know you could die any minute, and not even a easy death. It'll be hard, agonizing and damn painful.

She saw me placing a customer's order of bacon, cheese and coffee on the table when she winked, smiled and came over. She waited till I was done taking another order from another table. While walking back to the kitchen she said,

"Why did you wear so much make up today though? It's unlike you."

I added just a little more concealer to cover the eye bags since I cried all night getting barely any sleep. I slid the order slip to the head chef to arrange the order. His name is Lee, he's fat like really fat but he sure as hell knows how to make good food I tell you. He smiled at me taking the slip and getting back to work. I turned to face Hailey and then said,

"You're making it sound like it's over the top. I just felt like I looked a little ugly today, so I just topped it up more than the usual." I lied. I couldn't tell her the truth, we aren't that tight. She isn't Elisa and with Elisa so far away I doubt I was going to tell her either. I knew distance would come in between our life long friendship, with time we may not be as tight as we used to but we'll always be friends. That's for sure.

Lee placed the tray containing the order before me and I moved towards the restaurant. Hailey followed me like a little child who didn't want to lose sight of her mother. On getting to the main hall, Hailey said,

"If you're ugly then can I be ugly too?." She said but she immediately let out a surprised gasp before saying, "Now I know who you made up for, trying to look good for Spence are we?"

I followed her eyes and saw Spence entering the restaurant. He was dressed in gym clothes, he looked well, good.

"Hailey, attend to the customer who just entered will you? I'll never do anything to please a man that much. They are never worth it."

"Your past and whatever shit went down is really fucked up. You gotta move on, really. You're becoming bitter." She said shaking her head.

"You have no idea." Was all I could say before walking away, letting her take Spence's order.

It was four pm and my shift ended about an hour ago, but I didn't leave though. There wasn't really anything to do at home. Hailey hasn't stopped pestering me on and on about the Friday 'hang out', she was such a pest. Besides I and our manager, Becky still had unfinished issues. Unlike her, she hasn't shown up at all today but the cashier, Lucy placed a call and she said she'll be in soon. Like she knew she was the one on my mind, she immediately walked into the restaurant wearing a pant suit that fitted her just right with her short bob hairstyle, styled to perfection of course. She walked straight into her office without sparing anyone a glance. I didn't care though, her office was exactly where I needed her to be.

I allowed her a couple of minutes to settle in before dumping my half eaten pizza and walking to her office. I knocked and a couple of seconds later she yelled,

"Enter!"

I walked into her well, too organized office. Becky was too much of a perfectionist. Every thing was in the right place, the books and files on the shelf were in neatly packed and the floor was sparkling. With the blue coloured walls, the office screamed perfection.
