"What do you mean by he's in danger?" I said with more force than intended but ny voice surprisingly remained calm.

His gaze met mine and then he paused. "That aunt he lives with, I don't know if you know her-"

"Yes, I know her. What about her?" I could feel dicomfort crawling like an itch up my back.

"Well, that red head bitch is going to either kill that boy or leave him mentally deranged if something isn't done."

"What exactly is she doing to him and how do you even know this?" it wasn't me this time, it was Hailey and the desperation in her voice shocked me.

He looked at her with obvious venom and for a second, I wondered if they actually had a past together and Hailey found him creepy for another reason.

"How I know doesn't matter." he spat before his eyes shifted back to me "What matters is that I know and that boy needs to leave Slugsdale or mark my words, for a boy that young, she'll mess up his damn mind."

That itch had begun to feel like something was burning right behind me.

"What does she do to him?!" I said, a little louder this time and my voice was no longer steady.

He sighed, he paused again. Looking directly into my eyes as if he was trying to figure out if I was ready for what he wanted to say.

"Asides the fact that she makes him sell drugs? She abuses him sexually too."

I heard a sharp gasp and realized it came from me. Then I heard a soft thud and turned to see that Hailey had slipped into a chair absentmindedly. My palms were sweaty now and itched with the need to hit someone. How anyone could do that to a child is something I'll never understand. As if making him sell drugs wasn't enough, she took away his innocence too. I felt worse than I should because I knew something was wrong but I wished I asked him harder and made him tell me. I wished I knew where he lived. I wished I knew all of this sooner. I couldn't even begin to imagine everything he'll be going through.

Jason was quiet, letting me take all of this in. Hailey behind me was quiet too, her hands over her mouth, her brows furrowed like she was deep in thought. Her clear almost white skin was now crimson red.

I cleared my throat, "Do you know where he lives?"

"Unfortunately, no. But he's in Slugsdale and he sells crack. Ask around a little bit and you'll find him. He's thin now. Too thin. She's not feeding him. I've seen you with him and that's why I told you this. He isn't living, he's surviving and he's a child, he shouldn't have to. " Jason turned to leave.

"Please, wait." I said helplessness laced in my voice and I hated it. He half turned towards me. "I need your help. I've never been to Slugsdale and if you know this much information I need you. I can't get him out on my own."

"I can't help you." he said dryly and I couldn't believe it. How nonchalantly he said it. How relaxed he was. How he didn't care.

He has to be fucking with me.

"What do you mean you can't?!" I was screaming now but it didn't matter. "He's a child and someone's taking advantage of that!. Yes, you told me but I'm not the cops and I'm not part of some Human Rights organization either! If I'm going to bring him out of Slugsdale alive and well, I need all the help I can get!" My breath was rapid now and Jason looked expression-less. He could care less.

"I have stuff to do. I've done my part of telling you. I could've decided not to but I didn't. So, call the cops then or Human Rights whatever." he walked away immediately and I sank in the chair right next to Hailey.
