After I wake up, I sit around for a few mintues, before Razor comes in again, a slight frown on his face. Once he notices me awake, though, he smiles, though I know it's forced.
"You're awake. Are you doing okay? We made sure that we could heal you all to the best of Lilith's abilities," he tells me, going over to sit on the stool still by my bedside.
"Who's Lilith?"
"Oh, she's our healer. She's seventeen, so her skills aren't fully developed, as well as Jade's. Most of us here are quite young. The oldest here is twenty-nine."
I nod. We both fall into an awkward silence, before we hear a soft groan from the left.
"What the hell?" Rosaline mutters, groaning again.
"You're awake!" I cry, sitting up.
She rubs her head, closing and opening her eyes. "Yeah."
Her face holds confusion, so I know I should explain. I'm about to, when I hear Kano stirring as well.
"Where the hell are we?" He demands, more alert than Rosaline is.
"We're safe. This is a place for Specials!" I explain.
Kano looks over at me, skepticism written all over his face. Then, he catches sight of Razor next to me. He frowns. "Who's that?"
Razor grins, standing up and going over to each of them, shaking their hands lightly and telling his name.
"How did we end up here, then?" Kano questions.
"We had to make you crash. It was the only way for you avoid getting caught. A whole group of guards and cars were up ahead of you. We saw them, and stopped you from driving straight into it. We meant for your crash to be lighter and not harm you all so badly, but our Specials on the job are too young to fully control their abilities yet. Sorry."
The looks on Kano's and Rosaline's faces tell me their thoughts. We were followed again. But how? I got rid of the patch!
"How did they find us, though? We got rid of his patch, and we kept our pace fast and covered up our tracks. How the hell did they find us?" Rosaline demands.
Her eyes are shut tight, and I can tell she's analyzing what could've happened. She must be trying to read everyone in the room, which isn't extremely helpful; Kano and I don't know, and Razor is safe enough at least that we know he didn't do anything. After all, if he were dangerous, would he have healed us and brought us here? Away from the government?
"Ryan's bag. Government-issued. Must've gotten it from his aide. The bag had a tracker implanted in it, like all government-issued supplies. You're lucky you didn't have chips on you; we would've had to dig into your neck and pull them out," Razor explains.
I stiffen. It's my fault again. I brought the bag. I lead them to us. Why? Why am I so useless? I'm nothing but a burden! I want to be useful! I want to help, not cause harm to my friends!
"I'm so sor-" I start, but Rosaline cuts me off.
"Did you get rid of it?"
Razor nods. "Yeah, we left it with the car, along with a few battered dummies to make a temporary distraction for them. It's not like they would find us anyways, but it's better to be safe than sorry."
Rosaline nods. I stare at them both, confused. Why aren't Kano and Rosaline blaming me? Why aren't they giving me dirty looks, and telling me I'm nothing but a liability?
"Look, Ryan, it wasn't your fault, okay? You didn't know. If anything, you can blame your aide for leaving the bag around for you to find. You were just escaping," Rosaline suddenly says to me, looking me dead in the eyes.
