"Kano, try not to burn my hair again," Razor calls, making Kano wince and everyone else chuckle.

It's been a month now since we arrived at Greensafe. It's gone by fast. Razor, Jade, and Lilith helped us train, mainly Kano and I because Rosaline already had military training. They taught us basic fighting skills, and helped us control our abilities more. Now I won't become a black cloud of death whenever I'm mad.

A week ago, they deemed us ready to practice with everyone else. Now, they're pairing people up for one-one matches. Kano now stands across from Razor, a smile on his face. Two days ago, they fought, and Kano ended up setting Razor's hair on fire. It was funny, but Razor wasn't very amused. Of course. He hates losing.

"I'll try not to," Kano says, smirking.

We all ring around them, forming the boundaries of which they can fight in. People cheer, calling out bets on who will win. I've learned that people here get close fast. We've already been accepted by the residents of Greensafe, and fit in great. I call out Kano's name, rooting him on. He's pretty strong, but Razor is more experienced and well-practiced.

They start. Kano lunges at Razor, aiming his fist at Razor's stomach. Razor easily dodges, coming back around and kicking Kano in the back. Kano falls, and Razor then straddles his back, keeping Kano's head on the ground. Kano then starts to burn up, making Razor wince and hop off Kano. Kano then shoots a stream of fire at Razor, which the older guy easily dodges. He grabs a piece of metal set up in a pile for him to utilize, warping it into a set of knives. He starts to throw them, cornering Kano against the ring of people.

Right as Razor throws the last knife, Kano rolls forward, quickly jumping up and uppercutting Razor. The knife whizzes between two people, causing everyone to murmur in excitement. The older guy stumbles back a bit, and Kano sweeps his leg out, causing Razor to hit the ground. Kano grins down at Razor, before kicking him in the chest, but Razor grabs the redhead's ankle, pulling it down. Kano falls, and Razor quickly get on top of him. still gripping the younger boy's ankle. He pushes Kano's face down into the dirt, a triumphant smile on his face.

Kano starts to burn up again, but Razor tuts, pushing his finger against Kano's neck, making Kano's flame suddenly go out. A few people gasp, myself included, but others look like this has happened before.

"A Special isn't invincible," Razor calls, getting up off Kano and pulling him up. "The government knows our weakness. Right in the back of our neck, is a certain pressure point that's almost like an on and off switch for our abilities. Keep pressure on it, and the Special is rendered useless in terms of abilities. The government often puts lighter pressures and patches on there, that can and will dampen your abilities. Their trained Specials know this trick as well, so be careful."

He looks to every one of us. "Next round will be Kiara against Ryan," he calls, making my heart jump.

A girl steps up, and I do the same. Kiara's a water manipulator, meaning she can douse my clouds of ability. We stand across from each other, ready for the go signal. I know to keep my power dampened, so I'll only cause her pain, not completely turn her to a pile of ashes.

"Start!" Razor calls, pulling him and Kano back into the ring.

Kiara lunges at me, sending a punch to my face. I dodge her, kicking out and sweeping her feet out from under her. She lands on her back, but uses her legs to trap my left foot, slamming me down onto the ground as well. She gets up, going to push me down onto the ground, but I stop her by emitting a cloud of black smoke. She winces when she touches it, before collecting water from a small pool near the ring, dousing me in it.

I gasp for air, before a sphere of water forms around my head. I struggle to escape it, and do when I kick out and hit her shin. I gasp for air, standing up and sending a kick to her stomach. Kiara falls back again, and I lunge at her, straddling her and punching her in the face. I felt bad, but she doesn't show any emotion, only determination to win. She flips us around, sending a punch to my face as well, but she repeats, until I grab her and use my hand to send a wave of pain up her shoulder. She cries out, falling off me again.

I crawl over, turning her around. I press my thumb into her neck. shutting off her ability. The crowd cheers, as I pant.

"Good job, you two!" Razor calls.

I stand up, offering my hand to Kiara. She grins and takes it. "You're getting better at this," she comments.

"Thanks. You almost had me with that water," I tell her.

She grins, before we both fall back into the ring. More matches go on, and before I know it, it's time for showers and dinner. Razor, Kano, Rosaline, Jade, Lilith, and I all walk together. We've become closer as a group, and we also help them understand what the government is doing to Specials under their control.

"Thanks for not burning my hair, Kano," Razor jokes.

Kano huffs, upset he lost. "Yeah, whatever. Next time, I'll burn your whole head off."

We laugh at him, and he cracks a small grin. Kano then goes over to me, throwing an arm over my shoulder. "Good job, today, Ry," he tells me, grinning.

I smile back at him. "Thanks. You did good, too, you know, even if you didn't win."

"I guess you're right," he admits, sighing. "Razor's just better."

"Thank you~" Razor sings from in front of us, before we all start laughing.

After we all shower, we head to the dining hall to eat. I sit next to Kano this time, Lilith on my other side. Jade, Rosaline, and Razor sit on the other side of us. We all talk and laugh, joking about others occurrences in the day.

It feels nice, like I have a family around me. They're all my family. I'm finally belonging somewhere. I can finally feel accepted and useful. I won't let it go away. I won't let it die. I'll keep them all safe. I couldn't for my old friend and family, but I will now. I'll keep them safe.

When we head to bed, I stare up at my ceiling, thinking. Soon, Razor said we'll be going on our first mission. A car of new Specials for the hospital will be coming through, and we plan to rescue them.

I hope that goes well. I know it will feel amazing to know I made a difference. I helped. They'll be children, confused and crying for their families. Having been in that situation before, I want to free them, so they can go back to their families, or join us at Greensafe.

I finally start to drift off to sleep, feeling drained from training today.
