I watched my mamma play with fire in awe. I wanted to touch the fire but Mama wouldn't let me. She said that it would burn me. "Mama?" I asked, cocking my head.

She glanced at me and raised an eyebrow. "What is it?" she asked, putting out the flame. She stood and walked over to me. "Aren't you supposed to be in bed?" Mama asked.

I looked down and shifted on my feet. "Papa didn't read us a good night story," I said, lying. "Can you tell us a story?"

"It depends," she said, cocking her head. She looked at me, and I knew she knew that I was lying. "Are you lying to me?"

I stayed silent.

"Kyler Rose," she said in that mommy tone.

I hesitated but nodded. "Yes, Ma'am."

"Why did you lie?"

"I wanted to hear the legend of the Red Wolf," I said. "Your story."

Mama chuckled and knelt in front of me. She gently lifted my chin so that I looked at her. You didn't have to lie."

"I know. I sorry."

She hugged me close, her body moving. "I'm," she said. "It's 'I'm sorry'."

I huffed and snuggled close to her. "I'm," I mocked, causing her to chuckle.

"You do have my spirit. No wonder Rhett doesn't like it."

I grinned and held my mama as she stood. I laid my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes. I was tired, but I didn't want to sleep. I liked hearing her story and wanted to hear it now.

"Are you sure you don't want me to tell you it tomorrow?" she asked.

"Unh huh."

"Who else is in your room?"

"RJ, Gabby, Keagie, Ryry, Bebe, and Jojo."

"Did you wake up Jojo?"

I shook my head. "No, Ma'am."

"Did Keagie?"

"Yes, Ma'am." I closed my eyes and yawn, causing my mama to move. "I not sleepy."

"Ok, Baby Girl," she said. She opened the door to my room. "I know that you all aren't asleep," she said in that mama voice. "But, I will tell you the story of the Red Wolf. After that, it is bed time. Do you understand me?"

"Yes, Ma'am," we all said.

Mama set me down on the bed and took the grown up chair. "Now," she said, smiling. "Let us begin."

"There are many accounts of Red Wolves throughout the Werewolf history," Mama said, leaning back in her chair. "All of the accounts showed Red Wolves to be helpful and helped make sure that all clans lived in peace."

"But, that was before Aednat Kearney drank an Uninnocent's blood, a-a-and she turned evil. BUt, you turned her back to good before she was killed," I said.

Mama glared, but I saw the smile that she was trying to hide on her face. "Are you telling the story or am I?"

"Sorry," I said, ducking my head. I beamed when she chuckled. I liked making my mama laugh. I didn't like seeing her cry... or angry.

"It's fine," she said, running a hand through my hair. She smiled at me when I looked up. "But yes, I turned her back to good. Even to this day, I still do not know how I did it. I don't know if it was because I was a pure innocent or because I had discovered that the person she was hurting was one of my protectors."

"And, you saved Grandpa Vulcan's life, and now he has a cute son."

"No dating until you are thirty," my brother, Jojo, scowled. He stuck his tongue out at me, following my example.

"May I continue?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, please," I said.

Mama shook her head and chuckled. "Red Wolves are gifted with six protectors. Normally, the Protectors are not mates nor related to the Red Wolf, except for me."

"Because you are special."

"Because I am special." She cleared her throat. "My parents found out that I was the Red Wolf when I was three. When I was five years old, there was an attack on this pack, and I received the first two red markings on my back."

"Red Wolves have a triangle on their back. When Red Wolves drink the blood of an innocent or an uninnocent, then their markings are filled. When the last one is filled, then they shift into their wolf form. I was eighteen when that happened."

"Who are your Protectors?" Jojo asked. He smirked when our mama glared at him. "Just so that the audience knows."

"Cooper, your father, Jonah, Kyler, and Keagen, is one of my protectors. Both Rhett and Giselle, your mother and father, RJ and Beatrice are my protectors. Liam and Rebecca, your uncle and aunt are my protectors. And, Vulcan is my last protector."

"What happened when you turned?" I asked. "And did daddy know?"

Mama shook her head and smiled, sadly. "Your father didn't know that I was the Red Wolf. I had rejected him when I was eighteen because I had been bullied by him and others."

"But you forgave him."

"I forgave him. I didn't know this at the time but both Amelia Grace and Tabitha did something to help "protect" me and make me stronger than I would have been if I wasn't bullied."

"It worked sort of." I looked at the white lines on her arms. I didn't like that Mama hurt herself because she was awesome and loveable and and loveable.

"Sort of," she said, nodding her head. "But, it taught me how to be stronger and without it, I do not think my body would have been able to adapt to what I had been given."

"Like..?" Keagie asked.

"When I was "captured" the first time after I had changed into the Red Wolf, the ex-Elder Andrew decided to inject me with this serum that caused me to hallucinate. The next time, I had to drink a Demon's blood before drinking blood of an uninnocent. My body kept me innocent."

"And then what happened?"

"I fought off bad people and saved the world. Now, it is bed time. Good night." She stood up from the chair.

"But, that isn't the whole version of the story," I whined.

She gave me a look. "Good night." With that, she walked out of the room.

I pouted causing my older brother to tickle me. "Stop."

"No pouting. Mama will tell you the whole story. But, she is right. It is way past all of your bedtimes," Jojo said.

"Can we have a sleepover?" Keagie asked.

"Ya pleas"

Jojo smiled and nodded his head. "Let's get the blankets out of the closet and set it up." He walked over to the closet and pulled blankets and pillows out before laying then on the ground. He watched as we clambered onto the blankets and got comfortable.

"Jojo you stay." I pouted when I saw him at the door.

Jojo smiled and nodded. "Of course, Princess," he said. He turned off the light and walked to my bed and kissed me on the forehead. "Good night."

I yawned and cuddled up with my twin brother. "Night, night," I said before falling fast asleep dreaming of awesome battles and fighting in them.
