I hung up the phone and looked at Clarissa. "Do you want to come with?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
Clarissa frowned and shifted in her seat. She wanted to go, but she knew that Theodore would be there, too. She didn't know what to do, and I could tell that she was scared.
"Are you afraid that Theodore will reject you? Is that why you had rejected him first?"
She looked down and bit her lip. She was hesitating about what she should say, and I could tell that the memories of the past hurt her, caused her to be afraid of love and happiness.
"It is ok," I said, offering her a soft smile. "You don't have to tell me." I picked up the pants that I had worn to get here and sniffed them to make sure that they were clean.
I hadn't changed yet, and I was not going to go in the skirt. I would probably kill Emmanuel if I did.
Something dropped out of my pant pockets and onto the floor, causing me to look down. The necklace that Andrei had given me laid on the floor opened. A note was peeking out of it, and I couldn't help but be curious as to what it had to say.
"Oh, Goddess, not this one," Clarissa whispered when I reached to pick up both the necklace and the note.
"Why not this one?" I asked. "Are you talking about the path for the future?"
Clarissa stayed silent, causing me to look up at her. Her eyes were wide with fear, and I could see a grimace on her face.
Whatever she saw was bad. I could tell by the look on her face. She didn't know how to tell me, and I could tell that she wanted to.
I offered her a smile. "It's ok," I said, softly, causing her to look up at me. "I am pretty sure that I can handle whatever is thrown my way. I am the bringer of hope, aren't I?"
A hesitant smile flickered on her face, and she nodded her head. "Read the note," she said. "And quickly. I think Theodore and Tasha are almost here."
I frowned and took a deep breath. I placed the locket on the bed and opened the piece of paper.
My hands shook, and my heart pounded in my chest. I closed my eyes involuntary and breathed in his scent. It soothed me, but it made me yearn for him or accept his rejection.
"Ky?" Clarissa asked, causing me to open my eyes. She offered me a small smile, probably sensing my troubled mind. "You should read the note before you do something drastic."
I swallowed and nodded my head. I took in a deep breath and started to read what he had written. I just hoped that I wouldn't regret it...
