"What?" Theodore exclaimed, reading the name. Shock and horror filled his eyes, and he instantly looked up and met my gaze. His heart pounded in his chest, and he opened his mouth to say something but stopped before he closed his mouth and cleared his throat. "Is this true?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, and I shrugged my shoulders because I hadn't seen the name yet.
"Here," my grandmother said, moving the book until I was able to see it. She pointed to the name after the one that hadn't changed. "This name. Does this look correct to you?"
I stayed silent and looked at the book to see the name: David Dawson. I stayed silent and gestured for the notepad again in which my grandmother moved it towards me.
"Well?" Theodore asked again after I tore the list from the notepad and wadded it into a ball. "Hey!" he exclaimed when I threw it at him and jumped away. "What was that for?"
"Shush," I replied. I made a list again and nodded my head when I came to David's name. "Your last name is Campbell, right?" I asked, looking up at the two of them.
Theodore nodded. "Yes," he replied. "All three of ours is Campbell." He shifted in his seat and cleared his throat before he licked his lips. "Our great-great-grandmother's name is Serena Campbell. We kept her last name."
"Why?"
Theodore shrugged. "To be honest, I don't know," he said, honestly. "I didn't even know that David was an Alpha born."
"I don't think he is," my grandmother said. She flicked through the book and pursed her lips while she shook her head. "I think he was born somewhere else, maybe from a pack that you all didn't like, and they didn't want him as Alpha." She shut the book and looked at Theodore. "Which pack do you hold the biggest grudge against?"
He furrowed his brows and cocked his head while he thought about it. "Feor Pack," he said finally. "That is the pack that we've had the biggest grudge against. I think some land disputes happened between them, which is why we have a grudge."
She nodded. "I think that might be the reason why." She looked at Emmanuel. "Can you see if you can't get any information on the Feor Pack from your father? At least any records?"
Emmanuel nodded his head. "I will see what I can do," he replied. He excused himself from the table and left, pulling his phone out of his pocket to contact his dad.
"Why did they have him as the Alpha instead of Serena, if she was born into the Alpha position?" Theodore asked. "That doesn't make sense to me."
"I think that they wanted to keep the male of the couple for personal records," I said, shifting in my seat. "However, I think that Serena might have been the actual Alpha which is why they decided to say women were not allowed to train or do other stuff with their wolves and such."
Theodore furrowed his brows and hesitated before he nodded. "Do you know?"
I shook my head and pursed my lips. "I am just guessing," I replied. "However," I glanced at my aunt and raised an eyebrow, and she nodded before I turned my gaze back to Theodore, nervous that my grandfather wouldn't allow me to ask him for help. "I think I know who will be able to help us with that."
***
Theodore cocked his head and furrowed his brows further. "Who?" he asked. "Who are you going to ask for help?"
"Cornelius and Adam," I replied. I placed my leg on my other and shifted in my seat. "I think that they know everything that had happened to the pack and why they had to switch positions."
"'Switched positions?'" Theodore mimicked me but this way in a question form, and I nodded in confirmation. "What do you mean?"
"I have a feeling that Adam is supposed to be the Alpha and Cornelius should be the Beta," I replied. I spun the pencil around and pursed my lips. "It makes sense as to why Tasha's wolf was the size of an Alpha Female when she wasn't born from my mom and dad."
"Doesn't that have to deal with family stuff?" Theodore asked. "Like how we are raised?"
I shook my head. "It has to do with genetics and stuff." I shrugged and grimaced. "I could tell you everything that I know, but we don't have time. I'd rather get them here and find out what is wrong than talking about biology and the ranks."
"If you are doing that, I think that we might need a certain Dark Witch/Demon with us," Grandma Tabitha said. She gave me a pointed look when I looked at her. "I think he will be able to see what spells they are under better than me and get a better gist of it."
I nodded in agreement and pursed my lips. Worry filled my body, and I wondered if my grandfather would actually let him come, even after what had happened between us last night. "What if..?" I trailed off, not wanting to speak my fears out loud.
"Contact him and see," Grandma Tabitha said, knowing full well where my train of thought was going. She pursed her lips in disgust and narrowed her eyes while her whole body grew tense. A look of anger flashed across her face, and I had a feeling that she was mad at my grandfather for him, making me feel useless. "Goddess knows that he has to do that before I get my hands on him."
A small smile flickered on my lips, and I knew that she would do something to him. "Don't, please," I warned. "I don't want a rift between the groups if your plan backfires." I pulled my phone out of my pocket and texted my grandfather, letting him know that I needed him and Cromwell in the Between asap because I had found some information that could help us in our quest.
My grandmother brushed off my warning. "I don't think me punching him around a bit will cause a rift between the group," she replied. She smirked and winked, and I rolled my eyes. "Especially when it deals with you."
I bit back a snort and looked at my phone when it went ding, indicating that I had a text message. "He'll be here soon," I said after I read the text and looked up at my grandmother. Nervousness and dread filled my body, and I had no idea why I felt like this, but I did. I gripped my phone tighter but not hard enough to break it while I cleared my throat and licked my lips. "With Cromwell."
