[latin → oath, promise]
"So?" Tahira leaned back against her chair, excitement showing in her hazel eyes. "How did it go?"
"Well," Maya looked down nervously, her hands shaking. "It went okay—it's just that it was hella awkward,"
Tahira smiled a little, the dimples of hers showing clearly on her puffy cheeks. "Well, that's good, isn't it?"
"I don't know if I really should do this," Maya shook her head, her hands clutching the white fabric of her top. She looked to her side and closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of the summer sun seeping in. The cool wind ruffled her hair, a small, forced smile forming on her lips—it felt rejuvenating."It doesn't seem right,"
"Why not?" Tahira's eyes widened. "It's the only chance you have!"
"He doesn't remember me," Maya looked up at Tahira, sorrow filled her voice. "How do I get him back if he don't remember me at all?"
"Then make him remember," Tahira's hand reached Maya, squeezing it as she went on. "Just make him remember who he is, who you are to him. It will take time, I know—but I told you, this is the only chance."
"How?"
"I'll help you," Tahira smiled. "I'll help you bring Nathan back. I promise."
