"He kissed you?" Tahira asked, her face showing fake excitement. She hated that he kissed her, but what could she do? She couldn't just stop him from kissing her. How could she stop her from loving him? Tahira has no right to do that, and that thought hit her hard. Shaking her head, she smiled. "Isn't that what you wanted? Be happy about it!"
"I am," Maya smiled, her eyes watery. "It has only been six days to be exact and we already had our first kiss, I mean the first kiss after so many months. I couldn't be any happier." She smiled, tears rolling down her cheeks. Her hands were shaking—the lips of hers trembling in excitement. Without hesitation, Maya drew in closer and pulled Tahira into a hug. "Thank you—thank you so much," she said in a muffled voice.
Tahira curled her arms around Maya tighter. "Shhh, you don't have to thank me," She felt Maya's body shudder followed by soft sobs. "Hey, what are you crying for?"
Maya pulled away, scrunching her nose as she wiped her tears. "Sometimes, strangers are like family," she said, her voice shaky. "I'm just grateful to have a friend like you in my life. I—I'd never thought that you'd actually help me." Maya sniffed. "Why are you doing this?"
At the question, Tahira was left speechless. What should she say? She didn't know. Instead, Tahira nodded, flashing a little smile on her face when she looked at Maya. "I just want you to be happy—that's all,"
