D H O K H A
[hindi, urdu → betrayal]
Maya stood still at the balcony, her eyes still fixed on Nathan. She didn't know what to do—she just stood there, speechless. She wanted to call him out loud, but she was scared to do so. What if he ignored her? What if in all of a sudden he disappeared? What if people called her crazy?
She was confused.
Inhaling the palpable oxygen, she shook her head in denial. This can't be real. Nathan was already dead. She pushed the thought of him further into the dark spot of her brain and walked inside.
Landing hard on the couch, she pressed her hands together, her lips trembling. Her eyes stung at the thought of him. She shook her head multiple times, drops of tears raining down her puffy cheeks. "No, no, no, no,"
Exhaling heavily, she stood—her hands reaching for her face as she wiped the tears away. Swallowing hard, she walked out to the balcony, her heart racing. She cocked her head further to the front, her eyes widened at the sight of Nathan.
But this time, it wasn't only the fact that Nathan was there that surprised her. It was the girl that was hugging him.
