M A K S U R

[arabic → broken]

He doesn't know who you are.

Maya was left speechless, as usual, when she heard Tahira said those words. Nathan doesn't know who Maya is, nor did he had any memories of her with him. Her lips trembled, Maya landed on the floor hard, her mind going blank.

She stared out at the empty wall in front of her, where nothing but a clock hung high above her. It was already four in the morning, but sleep hadn't called her in yet. She sat by the side of the bed, her hands clutched tight onto the sheets.

Tears started to rain down her cheeks, her heart beating painfully. Her eyes met the ring on her finger, and thoughts of him and her flashed before her. She saw him holding her hands, she saw him kneeling before her with the ring in his palm, she saw him hugging her and she saw—her heart then skipped a beat.

She didn't know what to do—all she was doing was thinking of him over and over again. She thought of the time they spent together. She thought of the time where Nathan was with her, comforting her whenever she felt broken. Now, she was completely shattered, and there was no Nathan to comfort her.

Blinking away the tears, Maya came to a conclusion, realizing that happy endings are just lies—and there will never be a future with him. Ever.
