I wish I was there when you met your best friend Jake.

I wish I was there when he took you out to cat call women for the first time.

I wish I was there when Jake taught you how to 'be a man' and how to look like one too.

I wish I was there when Jake decided how many shots you could handle.

I wish I was there when you spent all your college money on liquor and strippers.

I wish I was there when you got the lap dance of your life.

I wish I was there when the bouncer had to remind you of the no hands rule.

I wish I was there like the other girls were, shaking their bodies all over you.

I wish I was there when Jake taught you how to treat women like objects instead of people.

I wish I was there when Jake introduced you to weed, now your second best friend.

Because I was there, at graduation, accepting a piece of paper I worked years for, and you weren't.

I wish I was there when your parents kicked you out of the house for bringing disgrace to their name.

I wish I was there when you just crashed at Jake's house and only left for drug deals and drinking.

I wish I was there when you drove to California without so much as a word to me.

I wish I was there when we broke up, 'cause you sure weren't.

I wish I was there so that everyday didn't feel like getting left behind.

Because maybe, if I had just been there, you wouldn't have turned into someone I've never seen and someone I never want to see again.
