The Doctor's brain sped up in order to slow time around him. He saw the bullets fly past him. He saw the look of surprise and then fear on Rose's face. As time came back into focus, he dashed forward to grab Rose's hand. They turned back to the TARDIS, but the bullet fire was becoming heavier. Acting upon emergency battle protocol, the TARDIS began to take off. The Doctor cursed, knowing the TARDIS would land relatively close in a safe location, but was leaving them behind. The jungle was near by, calling to the two of them. At the moment, the Doctor's only concern was Rose's safety. So he tugged her along into the jungle.

They ran and ran. Bullets flew past them from a battle ship off the shore. By the looks of it, the ship was either an American or British World War II ship.

"Where are we?" Rose choked out between breaths.

"Judging by the smells and looks of it, I'd say the Philippines." The Doctor slowed them down, as the jungle cover was thick around them. He walked over to a tree and licked it, causing Rose to frown in disgust. "Tastes like 1944. Ah, well, look at us. Landed right in the middle of the biggest war in your history. Well at least until 2027. Spoilers." The Doctor smirked at her.

"Yeah, I get it's World War II and all that, but why the hell are we being shot at? What have we done?" Rose asked, watching as the Doctor studied a large leaf hanging off of one of the trees.

"I think we've landed in a major standoff between the Japanese and the Allies. The Allies off the coast mistook us as Japanese." The Doctor pulled out his glasses and stuck them on to get a closer look at the tracks in the mud.

"But doesn't that mean that there are Japanese on the island? What if they mistake us for Allies? Wouldn't be that hard..." Rose said, staring at a strand of blonde hair she held up.

"You're very right, Rose." The Doctor said, a serious note in his voice. He stood up, taking her hand. "We must tread carefully."

"And what happened to the TARDIS?" Rose inquired as they began to follow footsteps in the mud.

"It automatically relocated to a safer location. I imagine it's still on the island; it's not supposed to go far. However, we're going to have to find her."

The Doctor froze at the sound of a twig snapping nearby. Rose froze as well, listening for movement.

Then he heard a sound he would never forget.

The sound a bullet makes when it separates flesh and muscle and buries itself inside of a person is short and intense. The subsequent scream reflects the pain one experiences when the bullet tears apart internal structures. Rose's scream tore at the Doctor's hearts. He felt as if he had been the one shot.

Immediately, he turned to his Rose and caught her before she fell to the ground. He quickly assessed her wounds, checking to see if any major organs would be damaged. One bullet wound to her upper left shoulder and another to her lower stomach. The Doctor was pretty sure nothing major would have been hit, but he knew that blood loss could kill her just as well. He pushed down on the wounds, trying to staunch the blood flow. Rose cried out, a tear of pain slipping out of her eye and down her face.

He ignored the Japanese soldiers who surrounded them from the bushes where they'd been hiding. He just kept his focus on his Rose, hoping that she would be okay.

"Stay here with me, love." The Doctor whispered to her, rocking her slowly.

"Doctor," Rose choked out. "It hurts." She cried. He had never seen her like this. She was always so strong, confident, and independent. Now she lay in his arms, crying for relief from the pain. And he wished he could help her.

"Who are you?" One of the Japanese soldiers demanded. The Doctor looked up at him, glaring with the full force of the Oncoming Storm.

"I am her husband, and if you don't get her medical attention right away, you will not like what you're going to see."
