Men stared as the Doctor walked past, Rose in his arms. She had passed out, which greatly worried the Doctor. The soldiers who had fired on them were right behind, showing the way towards the medical tent. It was clear they didn't really know what to make of the Doctor and Rose. It was clear that the two were civilians from the opposite side, but the badge he'd flashed said otherwise. It gave him command over anyone at the base. Many of the soldiers were suspicious of him.
He could care less, however. His focus was on how Rose's eyelids twitched every time his steps jolted her body. How her breathing came in short, painful gasps. How her eyes had looked up at him earlier, full of pain and fear. The bleeding was getting worse and worse. The Doctor feared permanent damage would occur if they didn't get her medical help immediately. He tried to ignore the fact that he was relying on rudimentary medical practices to fix his beloved.
Finally, he saw a medical tent up ahead through the winding, depressed camp. He sped up, but slowed down again when Rose flinched in her sleep. He instinctively held her closer, urging himself to get there fast without hurting her.
He nearly cheered when he stepped across the threshold into the bustling medical tent. Rose began to stir. The Doctor wished she wouldn't have woken up right then to see the horrid sights around them.
Men lay everywhere on cots, all injured severely. A man to the Doctor's left cried out, his left leg missing past his knee, which had bone and blood sticking out gruesomely. Another's arm was twisted awkwardly and forehead was bleeding from a deep gash. One man had a large piece of shrapnel sticking out of his stomach. The Doctor was not surprised, although he felt bad for the soldiers' pain. He had seen firsthand how brutal and cruel war was. And he hated it.
Rose gasped as she looked around, clearly dazed from blood loss.
"Rose," the Doctor said softly, trying to take her attention away from the soldiers around them. Her eyes lingered in horror on the man missing half his leg. A tear slipped out of her eye and she let him drag her attention to him. "Rose, my dearest love. I know this place is awful, but you need treatment. Stay focused on me."
"Don't leave me, Doctor," She choked out.
"I won't leave your side," He raised her hand and kissed it softly, before turning his attention away to find a doctor.
"Please help her," the Doctor told the doctor who came up. "She's my wife. She needs urgent care. Please help her."
