-John-

I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and Mayor licking my fingers from my arm dangling from the bed. I groaned and wiped my hand against the sheets, picking up my phone to check the time.

OH MY GOD I OVERSLEPT!!!!!!! DAVE IS GOING TO KILL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally jumped out of bed and raced against the clock to put on my clothes. I raced downstairs, out the house, and across town. I passed by Mr. Hussie who was drawing characters in a sketchpad. He told me as I ran that I inspired one of the main characters. I thanked him, but told him I was in a hurry.

I burst through the doors of the ice rink, without even saying hello to Rose or Kanaya. I ran to the door that led to the rink and opened it, yelling, "I AM SO SORRY, DAVE! I OVERSLEPT! I'M SORRY I'M LATE- Uh... Are you m-"
"Well, good morning, John!" Dave turned around and flashed a smile. He didn't seem upset at all! I have to say, you are impressively late. Only United Airlines has kept me waiting longer!"
I got on my knees, apologizing over and over. He seemed to be amused by it.

"Alright, shall we get started?" He helped me to my feet, "Go get your skates on."

It's only been a few days since I beat Karkat in the face off; and Dave has been an interesting house guest. Rather than being a coach that sits with me during our meals everyday, it's more like I'm being blessed with the presence of a god being by my side almost 24/7 .
The whole experience has been dreamlike, but it's all real. I have a coach with me everyday, and not just any coach!! Dave Strider!

That's when dread came over me during practice when I realized that HE is my coach.

I guess it's cool that he said I could pay for his coaching fees later, but  I still don't know how I'm gonna do that.

I was taken out of my thoughts when I realized that I totally choked on a jump and fell over. I groaned and got up when Dave said, "I've noticed that you tend to fuck up on your jumps when there's something on your mind. Wanna share?"

"No thanks!" I laughed nervously.

"Maybe we can get your mind out of the gutter with some time in the jacuzzi later, how about it?"
"Uh, sure I guess... Please tell me you'll wear swim trunks though."

"I'll think about it."

Later on that day, we did just that. Thankfully, he did put on trunks. I don't know how I would have handled being stuck in hot water with another male, completely nude.
We relaxed in the water in silence for a few minutes. Dave stood up and got out of the water, speaking up.

"I've been thinking during practice," Dave said, "I wonder if three quads in your free program is too many..."

"WHAT?!" I turned my head around to look at him, but immediately turned away when I saw him taking off his swim trunks, "B-But if I want to win the Grand Prix Final, I need to keep those all in!"
"That's not true. In fact, you can get by with just one quad. Just get a perfect score on the program components and you're good to go."

Ugh, the scoring system... Why does he have to be such a smart ass about it?
Jumps and spins: The technical score...
Choreography and interpretation: The presentation score...
Minus any deduction points and that's the total score.

Technical points are where I tend to lose my points. I get nervous and choke on the jumps. Luckily, I make up for those points with my presentation points, but it's not enough.

I crossed my arms over the edge of the jacuzzi. I sighed and rested my head.
I need to do more... I'll never win this way. Something has to change! But what?

"Hey, John," I heard Dave step into the water again, "You know why I am here, right? You know why I decided to be your coach?"
"Because of that video that was posted," I sighed, "I still don't-"

"Not exactly," He grabbed my hand and turned me around. I looked up and met eyes with his as he held my hands, pulling me closer to him, "I was drawn to you because of the way you moved to the music. It was like the song was already deep inside of you and you're using your body to release the energy it gives you! You need a high difficulty program to maximize that potential. At that moment, I knew that I could give that to you," I felt one hand feel down my body, when he suddenly grabbed my leg, "And the short program can prove that I'm right!"

"What are you doing?!"

"Now we're moving onto the free program, and I think you should produce this one yourself!"
