Chapter Thirteen

I stare at my text book as the teacher talks. They madero me go back to school, they made all of us go back to school. Seven days without Rhys. Seven miserable days. I can add them to my worst days and there's a lot, but I'm pretty sure that these days will never leave my mind.

My phone buzzes, I reach for it tiredly. I barely sleep, it's terrible. A lot of my dreams are of my past so I can't say I like sleeping. The best sleep I've had in a long when Rhys was in my arms. I miss her warmth, her inviting smell, her smooth skin, her pretty eyes, all of her energy, everything.

Regina: Rhys has been found.
Regina: I called the school to let you leave. Come to the hospital. She's here.

I reread the texts, is she serious. Then it hits me, Rhys has been found! The class room phone rings. I jump up making my chair fall over. I sling my bag over my shoulder and run out of the class room.

I start up my keys and drive down the road while I dial R's number. I press the phone to my ear, my hands shaking as I drive. I couldn't bring myself to do anything when Rhys left, I skipped my fights and haven't practiced.

"Wade, baby, I hope you're not speeding." Regina scolds me.

"I'm only going sixty," I say glancing down at the mph. I take deep breaths trying to compose my self. "What room number?" I ask frantically as I pull into the hospitals parking lot.

"Wade, we can't see her right yet. We are on the second floor in the waiting rooms." She says. I jump out of my car and lock the doors. I shove my keys in my pocket and tell R I'll be in there in a moment.

I walk in and hurry to the elevator. It's taking to long. I run over to the stairs. I run up both floors and start navigating through the many halls for the waiting room. 

I open the door, Jack, Miriam, and Daya are sitting on the couch next to my brother and aunt. "What happened? Why can't I see her? Is she okay?" I ask as my whole body shakes. Regina pulls me into a hug.

"She was found beaten severely," I flinch when she tells me this. "Luckily the police busted a house and found her unconscious." She says stroking my head.

"Then why can't we see her? She's here! Let me see her." I demand, her mother shakes her head.

"She's in a coma, Wade." Miriam says. "We don't know what's going to happen," she says the last part quietly. I collapse into a seat and wait for the doctors to tell me that I can see her as everyone else talks to each other quietly.

When I open my eyes it's just my family and Daya in here. I sit up in my seat, Regina offers me a soft smile. Jermey is half asleep on the couch staring at me.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"Rhys's parents are visiting her right now." She's awake! "She's still in her coma. You'll get to see her later." She informs me. I sulk in my seat. I look around to see Max, Noah, Nicole, and Kris waiting and the guy from The Diner.

I look down out at my phone and scroll through the texts I've had with Rhys.

Me: Come left

Rhys: in your dreams!

Me: puh-puh-please?

Rhys: N-n-no

Me: I'll make macaroni and cheese

Rhys: oooo, really?

Me: anything.
