Chapter 30: Galinda's Point of View

Galinda floated down to Elphaba's retreat in her bubble. She really hated that way of travel, but it was efficient- and the Ozians expected her to do something fancy.

She was immediately greeted by several winged monkeys hissing and baring their teeth at her. Did they work for Elphaba? The "good witch" wasn't sure. She flicked her magick wand to create a glimmering veil between her and the creatures, protecting her just in case. She walked into the gloomy abode. Lighting was dismal, so she nearly tripped in the near-darkness. She made her way up the stairs, level by level, peeking around the corner. She nearly gasped when she saw what she did and drew back, pressing her back against the wall, her blue dress puffing out considerably. The image burned into her head. Anna and Boq had their arms around each other, and he was kissing her neck. She knew inside that she still had some feelings for the former Munchkin. She bit back her fury toward Anna. Obviously Fiyero would have been preferable, but having Boq would have been nice. She internally fumed, not daring to look again for fear of showing her face and becoming even more distraught.

Galinda heard Anna whisper, "Are you sure about this?"

"About what?" Boq's voice gave Galinda a sickening sense of nostalgia.

"All of this, I guess."

"Being with you? I've never been more sure of anything."

"Neither have I." She heard sighs and a small giggle and dared to look. As soon as she did, Dorothy's dress came sliding off. Her vision blurred. She wasn't sure if she was seeing red, had stress migraines, or whatever else, until she blinked hard, and a steady stream of tears flowed out. Holding in sobs with all of her will, she blindly tiptoed away, using the wall as her guide. She turned the corner and took a deep breath, pursing her lips as she blew out, fanning her face with dainty, pale hands in effort to dry her eyes. She sighed softly, trying to calm herself. Just as she had anticipated when Fiyero had first dumped her- she was going to die alone. There was a terrible trembling deep in her chest, almost as if she was being suffocated. Her fear had been confirmed. Anna was cheating....with Boq. Had Boq moved on that quickly from Nessa? Perhaps he never truly loved her. Although she was reluctant, to admit it, she did find the idea of Boq and Anna cute. Anna seemed to really be in love with him, like she wanted to have the affair no matter what. She decided not to be mad at Boq, and continue looking for Elphie. After all, she was ruler of Oz, she could probably find someone. Suddenly she saw a cloaked figure further down the hall.

"Elphaba!!!" Galinda ran to her best friend.

"Galinda!!" Elphaba said, acting surprised. Galinda noticed she was clutching her stomach. Was she sick? She didn't know. Instead she just enjoyed the moment.

"Elphaba, come back to Oz with me. We can tell everyone how un-Wicked you truly are! Please Elphie."

"No........Really I can't..."

"Why not?"

"Just please Galinda. It's not a good idea."

"Why?!?"

"Galinda!" Elphaba stomped her foot on the ground-the signal- Anna heard it and almost forgot about her job. She continued to let Boq touch her as she put on her dress. The two- fully dressed- walked outside with the Lion, who was freaking out and horrendously nervous. Anna grabbed the pail of water and walked around to the front. She liked Elphaba, and she did not want to fail her. Slowly but surely, Anna, Boq, and the Lion trudged up the stone steps of the castle "breaking" downt he door and marching up to Galinda and Elphaba. Galinda was actually in a place Anna could not see her, but she could see them.

"It's the Wicked Witch!!!" Boq cried. She did everything in her power not to scream back at him.

"You've held us hostage too long, Witch!" Sneered Anna.

"And what do you plan to do about it?" said Elphaba. Galinda couldn't believe Elphie had done this. Kidnapping was not generally in her nature. Her thought process was interrupted when she heard all three companions scream in unision.

"THIS!!!" Anna threw the bucket of water she was carrying over Elphaba's head. Wait- WATER?! Elphaba could die! Galinda watched, horrified as her closest friend (Elsa aside) plummeted to the ground, melted. What? NO. No this couldn't be happening. She hadn't even had the chance to say goodbye! Galinda burst into tears and fell to the ground, revealing herself to Boq, Anna, and the Lion.

"NO....Please...Elphaba....NO!!!!!! How could you do that to her?!?" She couldn't stop crying. She blamed herself for not making Elphaba come with her. If only she'd done something sooner....

Galinda sat on the ground sobbing, unbeknownst to the trapdoor her green friend had gone through. She ignored the others and yelled out her name, begging for her to reappear, though she would not.

"Elphaba...Elphie!!!!!"
