"No way." Ariel chirped, reading the newspaper. She skimmed through the political section to view what was coming for that years election. 2 years had passed, and everyone was frightened of the election. As Ariel scanned the paper, she spotted some really crappy interviews from both candidates, and not just Greedman either. Greedman was being his materialistic self, while Novel was speaking about how nervous he was, and how sure he was of defeat. But, one answer stood out in particular to Ariel. The reporter asked him how he was managing his fear and paranoia of losing. He responded with:
"Even if I lose the election, I hope Greedman learns something. I hope he learns that love is really no personal matter of his. It doesn't matter what his American citizens are doing at home. They aren't breaking any laws, so why start harassing them for simply being themselves. My way to get over my fear, is something I learned from a comedian. I'm running for the presidency, and I love that. I might lose the election, and I love that. When ever you say you are afraid of something and then add the words 'and I love that' you get a happier feeling. It's the strangest sensation in the world, but it works. I'm not afraid of losing the election. I'm more afraid of what the outcome for the American people will be if Greedman wins a second term. If he does, then I pray for the best. I'm not afraid of losing. I'm afraid of what will happen after I lose."
Ariel was stunned by his words. The man was more concerned about people like her than winning. It might seem ridiculous, but she had become so used to Greedman and his words, that she wasn't familiar with a president who cared about the people. Isabella sat down next to her, as she peered over her shoulder, reading what Novel had said.
"Wow. Novel really does care about us."
"Yes. I don't know about you, but I'm actually shocked that he does."
"Yeah. With Greedman, it's completely foreign to us."
"This guy has got to win. We are going to have to do as much as we can to help Novel win."
"Yes. I'll let Marlene know."
"You got it, dude."
"Ha, ha." Isabella laughed at Ariel's remark. She stood up and began dialing Marlene's number. She stood and waited for Marlene to pick up. Suddenly, a weepy voice answered.
"Hello?"
"Dominic?"
"Oh, hey, Isabella."
"What's wrong? You sound really upset." Dominic sniffled and tried to speak, but his voice trembled.
"Were you trying to reach Marlene?"
"Yes. We're trying to get some rally's together to help Henry Novel win the election. Is she not available right now?"
"Isabella.....Marlene died." Isabella's heart shot up into her throat.
"What?"
"Marlene....she....she......she passed away."
"What happened!?"
"She and I were taking a walk, just a normal day. But, this man who was dressed almost like an FBI agent came up to us, and told us he had to take Marlene away. I told him no. He told me that she was under arrest. She tried fighting back, and she and I were about to run off, but......he....." Dominic stopped, as he could barely speak.
"He shot her!"
"Dominic...."
"He.....he had a gun on him, and as soon as we were about to run, I heard a loud bang! And Marlene screaming, and then she fell...." His words were like slop. He was all over the place, and could barely muster out a proper sentence.
