dear upcoming freshman,

you'll remember when you first got into high school
the exciting buzz of a new environment quickly wore off
it seems as if the next four years of your life would simply drag on forever
you hate school already and it's only been a few weeks
that kid you had a crush on won't matter in five years so don't cry
that one quiz grade you got in science won't destroy you so don't stress
the girl talking about you will have it coming senior year so don't fight
the teachers can be your best friends and give the best advice so just listen
the upperclassmen don't think you being disrespectful is cool so please think
you're the new kids to the tightknit community each school builds
first impressions don't matter
your attitude when you speak to someone does
don't worry, we actually can be nice and we'll respect you
you have to earn it though
finals will crush your spirit but it gets easier
also, trust me you'll be better off if you think in the now
if your mind is clouded with senior year thoughts, you'll miss the present
don't forget that

dear upcoming sophomores,

you made it up the ranks
followed by those "annoying little freshmen"
but remember just last year when you were them?
they look up to you so please set a good example
the juniors remember when they were you
"god they matured in the matter of a year"
the juniors don't hate you so please remember that
you're not the hotshot of the school so don't be obnoxious
grades aren't what define you but pay attention to your teachers
senior year is coming soon already so prepare accordingly
it seems right around the corner
merely one year has passed and you're almost graduating
allow your childhood to bloom itself so please don't count down the days until then
you're the neighbor who has been around for a little and is just settling in
help out when you can
if you want to join that soccer team but you can't play so join the team
if you want to enter the writing club but you're too insecure so build up the courage
this is the year to do whatever you want
because you'll find out what you really enjoy
don't rush and take things slow
it makes things more enjoyable as you push forward

dear upcoming juniors,

already?
yeah it's surreal
it was simply yesterday you were a freshman
courses this year are going to be the hardest they have been and will be
the way you participate in chem won't sculpt your future so don't fret
question six on your english exam won't make or break your high school career so loosen up
all the assignments due and papers to write will wash over in a matter of time so pace yourself
the teacher gave you time in class to do the work so do the work
you promise yourself that you'll do the homework later but please do it then
leave as much of school you can at school
the stress, sweat, and tears can stay in your locker so allow time outside for your friends
senior year in next year but don't push for it
this year is the year that is going to go by the fastest so allow yourself this last segement of your childhood
your grades are inflicted by your attention span in school
don't allow this moment to slip away
you now have two lower classes leaning onto you for support so smile a little
they look lost not knowing where to go so point out that math class they need to get to
your teachers always know the truth so don't lie
you're the neighbor who is just getting around to meeting people so be kind
remember senior year?
you were looking forward to it remember?
it's next year and you're not ready to be shoved off onto your own
but don't worry and ask an adult for help
don't stress
leave that for next year

dear upcoming seniors,

you did it
it's your last year of this "stupid" school
but are you really ready to leave?
i mean you just got here right?
the freshmen look up to you
the sophmores ignore you
the juniors envy you
but now looking back, you regret rushing adulthood
the tassle that you are about to place on your head is the sign of your wistful childhood ending
you are the neighbor that just got comfortable with your community and are being forced to move out
you walk around the halls
half of you are excited for the end while the other half wish they could go back
it is the last time you'll be able to do anything
the last time you'll sing in the musical so belt it out
the last time you'll score that goal so cry when you do
the last time you'll play that violin so ring the chords the loudest you can
it's the last time you'll sit in that desk so take it in
it's the last time you're going to learn as a kid so remember the experience
it the last time you're going to joke with your teachers so laugh until you cry
it's not easy for you or anyone
your freshmen teachers have seen you matured in a marvelous way
your sophmore teachers are in awe of how fast time flew
your junior teachers remember how much you've changed
your senior teachers regret only knowing you for a year
your principal knows so much about you even though they were sitting in the sidelines
they all cheered you on quietly
and upon your graduation day
it's going to be a bittersweet ceremony
parents silently weeping on the bleachers
little cousins or siblings look up and see that that's going to be them and see how big you've grown
but when all is said and all is done
the last fourteen years of your life has ended in the matter of hours
you're now off to college to begin the entire circle again with your family

dear everyone,

remember this
guide your child through life knowing you'll always be there
current seniors leave behind the legacy we hope you carry on
as we step out of the school for the last time
we wish all those after us good luck
we built and left the neighborhood so fast
we wish you all continue to build upon that
welcome more members in and close any gaps separating all of you
we began our adulthood as you are all about to in a fast paced world
problems emerge every time you turn the corner and it seems unbearable
but we did it
which means so you can too
just push forward with a positive mind and no one can stop you

sincerly,

a former high school student
