Grady saw me emerge from the beam of light and dropped Verdi's food, jogging over to me.
"I heard you got your--what's wrong? Who did this? Was it that Sencen boy? I swear I'll--"
I interrupted him by giving him a hug.
"It was just my list. Someone I wanted to be on there wasn't," I said.
Grady held me, "It'll be alright. There are plenty of other options on the list for you to choose from."
I sighed, "You just don't get it."
Dad opened his mouth to say something, but I beat him to it.
"I'm going to talk to mom," I said, not meeting his eyes, and running through the front door.
"Oh Sophie! I've been dying to see your list," she trailed off as I started crying.
"Honey, what happened? Are your friends fighting?" She asked quickly.
"H-He wasn't on my list," I hiccuped.
"Who?" Mom asked, her eyes furrowing in concern.
"Keefe," I whispered softly as she hugged me.
"I feel deja vu right now. You know, Jolie ran in here crying too," she whispered.
"He told me that everything will be okay, but at the same time I'm afraid," I said.
"Afraid of what?" she asked.
"I don't know. I think I'm afraid of giving people another reason to hate me. I'm afraid he will realize I'm not worth it," I said softly.
"Oh honey, nobody in their right mind would think you weren't worth it. And if we're talking about Keefe, he's probably afraid of the same thing. This was the big reason why I told you to keep your mind open to possibilities. I knew this would happen, not that it'd be with Keefe, but that this would repeat. I guess I'm not a good--"
"No! You are a wonderful mom, don't say that!" I scolded.
She didn't say anything.
"I tried telling Dad, and he basically said there are other people on your list. Choose one of them," I sighed.
"He's just afraid of the past repeating," Mom said quickly.
"Well, it won't. Keefe wouldn't ever hurt me," I said quickly.
"Jolie thought the same thing once," she whispered.
"Yeah, well Keefe isn't Brant, and I'm not Jolie!" I spat.
Hurt flashed in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that," I said looking at the floor in shame.
"No, you're right," She sighed. "I'm going to make some mallowmelt."
I walked to my room, plopped on my bed, and screamed into my pillow.

Keefe:
I lightleaped home, my cheek still tingling from where Foster kissed me. When I saw Candelshade the events of today came rushing back, and I was suddenly very angry.
I guess it's easier to be angry than sad or afraid.
So I ran, and I kept on running. Jumping over fallen trees in the woods and bushes.
I felt like screaming, I couldn't believe it. Why did I have to love her?
Wait, love?
I-I loved Foster.
I loved Sophie.
I stopped in my tracks and let out a whispy laugh.
"I'm in love, wow," I said to no one in particular.
"You hear that?" I shouted. "I love Sophie!"
I heard a twig snap and dropped to a crouching position. My heart pounding, ready to burst.
And out came a deer. I laughed at my ridiculousness and pet the deer.
"You here that? I think I'm in love. Yeah, you don't care do you?" I gushed in a voice you use on little kids.
The deer scampered on.
