***Ronnie’s POV***
At 4:00 sharp, Jc’s Volkswagen cruised down the driveway to my house and stopped at the end. I was going to come home at a later time, but I wanted to make my brothers happy, so I made sure that I was home at just the right time.
“Thanks for the ride,” I said, opening the car door and swinging one leg out. I always found myself riding in cars with other people, which reminded me that I should go ahead and get my permit while Jacob was in town. I had already been fifteen for a few months, and it was about time that I started driving myself here and there.
“I’m always happy to drive you places, Ronnie,” he replied with a sweet smile, making me blush.
The front door to my house creaked open, and Jacob started walking out toward the car. I turned back to Jc and rolled my eyes.
“You’re here,” Jacob said with a slightly surprised tone.
He turned to Jc, who still had the car running. Now it was my turn to be surprised. Jacob walked over to the driver’s side and opened the car door. He said something to Jc that I couldn’t quite make out, before Jc cut off the engine and hopped out of the car.
“What?” I whispered to myself while I was still trying to figure out the situation.
“I figured that the boy wanted some dinner, right?” Jacob said while strolling casually back towards the house.
Jc followed right after him as if it were nothing out of the ordinary. He may have been calm, but I was freaking out. The only other boy that I had ever brought home was Connor, and everyone in that house knew that he broke my heart. Even though Jc and I weren’t dating, I had a strange feeling that my family was going to rip him apart.
“Wait, Jc-” I tried to say, but he was already halfway into the house.
Ok. My subconscious began to talk to me. He is going to be fine. There is nothing to worry about, Jc can stick up for himself. But what if he says the wrong thing? What will Hannah say? Oh, don’t worry. It’ll be fine.
I put on a smile and trudged into the house. It was better to go into the seemingly doomed situation with an open mind.
“Hey guys!” I said in the most delightful voice I could muster right as I stepped a foot through the door.
The scene in front of me was pretty much what I expected. Hannah was practically glaring through Jc’s soul, and Tim was carrying on just like he normally would have. He had met Jc, along with my other friends, a few times before, so he wasn’t automatically skeptical.
I turned to the kitchen at the sound of a high-pitched squeal.
“Ronnie-poo!”
Really?
Really.
Why me?
“Wow Lex, I didn’t expect to see you here at all!” I said with fake enthusiasm to my brother’s supposed-to-be ex.
“Well, here I am. Lucky for your brother, I decided to take him back. I really shouldn’t have, but I was just too nice to turn him down.” She replied through her multiple layers of lipstick and glob of fruity bubble gum.
She had to be kidding me. There was no logical explanation to why she was back here after Jacob dumped her ass during Fall Break.
“Jacob, can I have a word?” I nodded toward him then started to walk into the kitchen.
“Yeah, what’s up?” He replied, nonchalantly leaning on the counter.
“What’s up? What do you mean what’s up? You know what’s up!” I whisper-screamed at him, still aware that Alexa was just in the other room.
