"Has anyone got anything new to report?" Leia asked frustratedly, raking her fingers through her hair. Everyone who stood around the circular table shook their heads no. "Of course not," she sighed, stepping away from everyone to take a few calming breaths. When she regained herself, she asked, "Is there another way to gain intel? We've been reluctant to send spies in, but what if it's come to that?" Leia asked them.
They looked towards each other, conversing in hushed voices. Slowly the talking died out and one of the men spoke up. "We agree. It's time to send someone in," he nodded in confirmation.
"Alright. Though who we send in is a discussion for another time. Council adjourned," Leia waved them away, and off they went, except for one. Admiral Ackbar remained. "Admiral," she acknowledged and he nodded in reply.
"I don't mean to question your authority, General, but are you sure it was wise to send the only force sensitive Kylo Ren doesn't know about away? Would it not be better to have her here, with us? She would make quite a spy," Ackbar explained, and it made Leia pause for a moment.
"You do make a good point, but I stand with my decision. She is just like any other candidate for the position if she is not trained to shield herself. Kiandra needs to train with my brother. It is the only reason I let her stay. Without training, she is just a defenseless young girl. So, Admiral, I'm afraid we'll just have to find someone else for the position," Leia shook her head dejectedly when suddenly alarms began to blare.
"General, a group of enemy fighters have begun an attack run on Naboo. With our forces across the Galaxy wiped out in the attack, we're the only defense left," Leia nodded at the man's rushed words and ushered him away.
"I should go with them," she sighed and looked at the Admiral. "Many of our men were killed in the battle of Starkiller Base, they need someone who knows the ropes. Why not me?" Leia asked him rhetorically as she began to walk away. In her office, she kept her old flight suit, peppered with burn marks and rips. Seeing it made her pause for a moment, reminding Leia of the old times with her father, fighting against the Empire, and what she would later find out, her brother.
She pushed those thoughts away and slipped the suit on, it's familiarity calming Leia. Once she had exited her office she could see the other men and women rushing to their fighters, droids hot on their tail. Leia took a deep calming breath before stepping into the madness to reach her personal fighter. Those rushing around barely noticed her moving amongst them and it was nice to be able to go somewhere without people moving out of her way and saluting as she walked by.
In unison, they rose into the atmosphere before making the jump to lightspeed. "Rogue Leader, how many fighters are we expecting? What about civilians?" One of her rogues asked on their shared comm frequency. Leia had to think for a moment before answering.
"We're not entirely sure how many, but at the least, two squadrons. Possibly more. We need to be ready and not let them catch us off guard. As for civilians, there are many we need to watch out for. There are gungans in the water but I doubt we'll have to worry about protecting them."
"General, what about the troops on the ground? Taking them out from the air could be catastrophic, we could hit civilians."
Leia had already thought about it Iand provided a solution. "Not to worry. I ordered for a cargo ship to transport a battalion for on-ground support," she explained to the men and women, and almost instantly she could hear sighs of relief come through her headset. A beeping alerted Leia to the fact that they were about to exit hyperspace.
"May the force be with all of us..." She sighed as the white lines zipping by faded into stars in the darkness of space. Naboo was on their left, with a star destroyer on their right. Immediately, TIE fighters began to pour from it, headed right for them.
