Half a heart
Chapter 8
My grandfather died two days after the fight with Zach.
"Your not using this as an excuse to shatter are you?" He stared into my eyes.
He was losing his sense of what to say and when to say it.
"No." I said.
"Good, I'm sorry about this bailey, I am. Someone shouldn't have to go through this. I would know." He looked off into the distance.
"What?" I sniffed.
"My dad." He choked up.
"Zach." I sighed.
"Cancer."
"Was his name Augustus?" I smiled.
"What?" He laughed.
"Nothing, just had to make you smile."
My mom snuck up behind us.
"I'm glad to see you two smiling, your grand father would've enjoyed that." She rubbed her nose with a tissue and continued around.
It warmed me too see my grandmother smiling and not crying.
"Your happy about this?" I asked her.
"Oh no, I'm terribly sad. I'm not smiling the fact he's... You know... I'm smiling because of the memories. The legacy he's left on. And too see you with that young man over there. Your grandfather would've been proud. So that's why I'm smiling. He's in a better place with out me." She smiled.
"He loved you grandma, I'm sure a place with out you is terrible." I said.
"There is this place called heaven. It is not among the clouds. It's in the hearts of your loved ones. He's right here." She patted to her heart. "So he's happy to be with me, in a safe place forever. And when I eventually pass, both of us will travel to your heart. Because we are happy in your heaven." She kissed my cheek.
"Your friend reminds me of him." She smiled.
"Zach? How?"
"He's handsome." She laughed.
"I'm kidding, well he is, but he makes you happy, and that makes me happy, which is exactly what your grandfather did too me and my mother. He made her proud." She teared.
"Grandma. Don't cry." I hugged her.
"I just remember you used to be so sad. And now too see you telling me not to cry is just, amazing. Bailey, never lose him. He will make something of you one day. Something more than what you already have become. Don't lose that." She winked and walked off.
"Well your a hit in my family." I smiled at him.
"What?" He laughed.
"They adore you. My whole family does. Hey, come to the dinner with us." I begged.
"Are you sure? Wouldn't that be intruding?" He asked.
"If my grandma loves you, my grandfather would've. My who family will love you as much as I do." I smiled.
"Okay, but I still feel awkward." He said.
I tucked my hand in his.
"Were all a little awkward at times." I smiled as we walked to the car.
I introduced him to most of my family members.
Of course, being the charmer he is, every one loved him.
