Half a heart
Chapter 2
I woke up cold with a loud beeping in my ear. I hit my alarm and checked my arms. I scratched a few scabs off but they weren't that bad. My mom already left for work.
I climbed out of bed and walked to the kitchen. I gently stroked my first mark. The broken heart scar. It reminded me of "mystery boy" and how he practically saved me. I smiled remembering his face. I then realized he was slipping from my memory. I made breakfast and stared blankly at the wall. My eyes always had that red aura like id been crying my whole life. They burned but they felt cold.
When I finished I walked to my room to put on a white sweater and jeans. I tucked my hair behind my ear and headed out to the street. I soaked in the crisp fall air as I walked down the street. Stepping on leaves. After a while I heard footsteps across the street. I smiled as I saw who it was. The familiar black hoodie bobbed up and down. I watched as he fixed his sleeves. A string gust of wind knocked both our hoods down. He looked up at me. I blushed and looked down, fixing my hood.
I walked to my locker pleased not to see Cecelia nagging at my locker. She probably was flirting with some nerd to do her homework. I might actually make it to class early today.
I gathered my books and headed to math. I must've thought to soon. Cecelia turned the corner and smacked my books. "Awh, looks like clumsy bailey dropped her books again. It must be gods way of saying you should drop your life." She kicked a book down the hall and snickered away. I sighed and picked up my messy pile. "You uh, missing something?" I looked up to see the boy. He put his hood down and smiled at me, holding my missing textbook. "Uh, yeah thanks." I smiled at him as we walked to class. "So your new here?" I said faintly.
"Yeah, just moved here last month." He shook his hair out of his eyes.
The bell rung for a warning. We slowed a little. I gave a tiny smile to myself. "Cool, uh, I'm bailey, by the way." I smiled at him. "Zach." He gave me a side smile back. I noticed a small dimple in his left cheek. I blushed. He opened the door for me and his sleeve slid up, revealing what I think was a scar. I lifted my eyebrow in surprise but quickly left to my desk.
Th final bell rung and the teacher proceeded with the lesson.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked down to see a white folded note.
Bailey,
I'm sorry about yesterday, I shouldn't have gotten in your business.
I frowned and replied,
Don't be, your the only person who ever stuck up for me. If anything I should be thanking you. So yeah, thanks.
I passed it back.
Shortly I felt another tap.
Your welcome, and we should hang out sometime.
His number was below. I smiled and kept the note.
After class I kept smiling. I never smiled. It was a good feeling.
The final bell rung and I waited outside for my mom. My phone buzzed.
Mom: you'll have to walk, sorry.
Me: fine.
I fixed my bag and began the half a mile journey. Rain began to fall and I constantly checked across the street. He wasn't there. I patted my pocket to secure the note. I already put his number in my phone. I only kept the note to re-read our conversation.
I walked up the driveway and stepped into our house. I flopped off my shoes and curled up onto the couch. I felt like crying again. I don't know why I just did. I caught a glimpse of the kitchen. A dirty knife hung above the sink.
